Environmental Asst. Superintendent



The successful candidate will lead and direct the Environmental Team in all aspects of the environmental compliance requirements at the Valdosta Kraft Paper Mill. This is inclusive of managing the daily activities including:




  • Provide oversight of evaluation, interpretation, and compliance with environmental laws, regulations and permits as it relates to the operation of the Valdosta Mill
  • Assist the Leadership Group with the development of short and long-term environmental objectives, targets and strategies
  • Build strong, professional relationships with Local, State and Federal Regulators
  • Stay abreast of upcoming environmental regulations
  • Implement compliance programs for new environmental regulations
  • Prepare applications/renewals for varied permit reissuance or modification
  • Develop and implement required employee awareness training
  • Manage mill water treatment program
  • Develop talent in the Environmental Department by increasing knowledge, skills, and abilities of direct reports
  • Facilitate and represent the facility during agency inspections and public meetings
  • Work with local managers, corporate personnel, and outside vendors to find effective solutions
  • Be an advocate for PCA in the local community
  • Participate in the Weekend Duty rotation



Basic Qualifications:



  • BS in physical or environmental science, chemistry, engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 2-5 plus years of industrial experience

  • Must be able to work well under pressure and within time constraints, multi-task, and build sound relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Must exhibit excellent communication, analytical, organizational and computer skills
  • Must be capable of independently making sound decisions through creative problem-solving
  • Must be capable of working with ambiguity and change
  • Must display a professional attitude
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with State and Federal Regulators

Compensation and Benefits



  • Starting salary range for position: [$86,400 -$120,000].
  • Paid Vacation: Three (3) weeks per calendar year. Pro-rata Vacation during the initial year of hire based upon start date within the calendar year.
  • Within the first 30 days of employment, an employee (and their dependents) is eligible to enroll in certain benefit coverages -- medical, dental, and vision - and are automatically enrolled in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Upon hire, an employee is automatically enrolled in the 401k plan. The plan offers both pre-tax and Roth contribution options along with employer-provided matching contributions.
