Starting Salary: $47,364.00/Year

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Under supervision, assists professional and paraprofessional medical personnel in the administration of medical services at a community health clinic; and performs related duties as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Patient Registration, Triage, and Care Coordination

  • Conduct patient registration, verify eligibility, triage patients to determine appropriate services, and schedule appointments using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

  • Assess patients for fast-track services by obtaining and documenting medical history and relevant health information.

  • Ensure a welcoming patient experience by greeting patients, facilitating navigation through clinic services, and promoting patient satisfaction.

  • Coordinate care and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary clinical team, including laboratory technicians, nurses, clinicians, and administrative staff, to ensure seamless patient flow and continuity of care.

  • Collaborate with providers and support staff to prioritize patient needs, address workflow concerns, and facilitate timely service delivery.

Clinical Support and Laboratory Responsibilities

  • Order laboratory tests and provide laboratory results using the electronic laboratory information system.

  • Perform phlebotomy by obtaining blood specimens, accurately labeling samples, and preparing specimens for transport and processing

  • Follow up on abnormal laboratory results according to established protocols and communicate findings to appropriate clinical staff.

  • Identify patients requiring isolation precautions and implement clinical isolation protocols, including placement in designated exam rooms, notifying clinicians, and ensuring proper cleaning and disinfection after patient discharge.

Inventory and Supply Management

  • Monitor and maintain adequate levels of medical and clinical supplies throughout the clinic.

  • Perform monthly inventory counts and replenish supplies in examination rooms and clinical areas to ensure uninterrupted patient care.

Administrative and Clerical Functions

  • Perform clerical duties including answering telephones, verifying eligibility, scanning documents, filing records, and communicating laboratory results to patients by phone or in person.

  • Assist with medical record storage, retention, and disposal processes in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and data entry within electronic systems.

Professionalism, Communication, and Teamwork

  • Maintain professional communication and positive working relationships with patients, coworkers, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, quality improvement initiatives, and team-building activities.

  • Demonstrate awareness of and adherence to organizational policies regarding attendance, punctuality, and workplace expectations.

  • Support a collaborative work environment that promotes patient-centered care and operational excellence.

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support clinic operations and organizational objectives.

Hours: M, W, F - 8:00am - 4:00pm

T, TH - 9:00am - 5:00pm

Qualifications

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or one year of experience performing medical assistant duties as described above
