Dunwoody has been approved to start a new Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering starting in Fall 2027. The college is seeking an Assistant Professor to support the development of its new Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering program. This role will be evenly divided between teaching existing School of Engineering courses (50%) and leading civil engineering curriculum development efforts (50%).

Primary Objective

Engineering faculty are responsible for leading the teaching and learning process with an emphasis on curriculum development and continuous improvement. They create an environment that enables students to achieve course learning outcomes while maintaining, updating, and developing curriculum. The ultimate goal is to prepare students to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, ethical standards, and proper use of tools required to advance the profession.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain curriculum for the Civil Engineering program.
  • Teach common engineering courses within the School of Engineering.
  • Work closely with Dunwoody and Stratasys to develop new applications for 3d printed parts and tooling.
  • Work with students both in theory and lab to fabricate parts to print specifications.
  • Monitor and assess technical and academic progress and performance using the Canvas LMS.
  • Instill professional principles, skills, and work ethics.
  • Assist with the maintenance of lab equipment when required.
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS

  • Facilitates learning activities so that students learn the principles, theory, skills, and work ethic necessary to become proficient for entry level positions.
  • Creates a positive learning environment.
  • Monitors, assesses and advises learner on technical and academic progress and performance.
  • Uses current academic and industry practices in assigned courses of instruction.
  • Develops and upgrades lesson material, training aids and maintains equipment within assigned course of instruction.
  • Work with engineering faculty and across other departments to design and develop curriculum.
  • Assists in marketing and recruitment of students.
  • Work with director and dean to recommend equipment needs and purchases within assigned program.
  • Participates in industry and/or professional organizations in order to maintain and enhance program health and academic integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in civil engineering and MN PE license (preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and MN PE license (required)
  • Experience with Civil3D or other related CAD software.
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas (structural, transportation, geotechnical, water resources, environmental).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a civil engineer.
