Survey / Geospatial Technician I, Brownsville, TX

Halff has an immediate opening for a Survey Technician to join our growing Survey team in our Brownsville, TX office. The Survey Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the firm's surveying and mapping projects. They work closely with a team of professionals to collect, process, and manage field data, ensuring the accurate and efficient execution of land surveying tasks. The Survey Technician has a key role in contributing to the success of projects and the growth of the firm. What you will do:



  • Organize research for teams in the field, creating efficiencies in the overall project.
  • Process and manage collected survey data, including field notes, digital images, and GIS data.
  • Create detailed survey drawings, maps, and digital terrain models using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure surveying requirements align with project goals and specifications.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, drawings, and deliverables for clients and project teams.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols during fieldwork and data processing.
  • May participate in regular equipment maintenance and calibration to guarantee accurate measurements.
  • May conduct field surveys using advanced geospatial equipment, such as total stations, GNSS receivers, and LiDAR scanners.
  • May process and analyze geospatial data, including GIS data, aerial imagery, and point cloud data, using software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and other industry-standard tools.
  • Operate and maintain surveying/geospatial equipment and software for data collection and analysis.
  • Create accurate and detailed topographic maps, as-built drawings, and land parcel maps.
  • Perform calculations and data reduction to generate survey measurements.
  • Assist in boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking.
  • Collaborate with surveyors and engineers to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Follow safety protocols and best practices in surveying.


What you will need:



  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal education or vocational training in land surveying is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficiency in using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
  • Familiarity with surveying software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools for data processing and mapping.
  • Solid understanding of land surveying principles, techniques, and terminology.
  • Software skills:

    • Civil 3D drafting
    • Trimble Business Center (TBC)
    • Microsoft tools, i.e., Excel, Teams, etc.


  • Experience with Civil 3D, required.
  • Understanding of Computer Technology (tablets, iPads, etc.) required.
  • Basic knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) and its application in surveying.
  • Strong mathematical skills and the ability to interpret technical drawings and maps.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in data collection and analysis.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and conveying information clearly.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and rough terrains.
  • Problem-solving skills to address unexpected challenges during fieldwork and data processing.
  • Time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with surveying practices and equipment operation is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using surveying software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
  • Ability and willingness to follow instructions that may be written, delivered verbally, or conveyed from various methods of communication.
  • Must be flexible, dependable, responsible and disciplined to be a positive representative for Halff and remain punctual on a consistent basis.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to pass a drug and background screen.
  • Ability to work both independently
