Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Compliance will report to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and will assist and oversee various aspects within the ECU Athletics compliance department. This individual will help to ensure all 18 varsity sports are in compliance with NCAA, American Conference (AC), and ECU regulations. The Director of Compliance will serve as a liaison to ECU campus departments, research and disseminate interpretive responses, research and prepare NCAA waivers, and educate ECU coaches, staff, student-athletes, prospects, and donors regarding NCAA, AC, and institutional rules. Additionally, this position will serve as an NIL contact for student-athletes, and implement NIL educational initiatives and programming for coaches, student-athletes, donors, etc.
This position provides leadership and support to internal and external constituents.
Nights, weekends, holidays, and travel may be required in the performance of duties.
Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
A bachelor's degree with at least four years of experience with NCAA compliance responsibilities; or an advanced degree and at least two years of experience with NCAA compliance responsibilities;
Demonstrated interpersonal and verbal communication skills;
Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills; and
Technology proficiency including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and database systems.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Master's degree or higher preferred;
Experience interpreting, researching, and applying NCAA and conference rules and regulations;
Demonstrated experience using NCAA Apps (e.g., LSDBi, Compliance Assistant, RSRO, Transfer Portal), Teamworks, C+R, (or similar program).
Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports and projections;
In-depth knowledge of the National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA) eligibility processes and legislation;
Demonstrated ability to mediate conflicts and provide dispute resolution in a fair and objective manner;
Demonstrated experience to manage and oversee confidential information;
Demonstrated planning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
