Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Interprofessional Clinical Simulation Program ( ICSP) at the Brody School of Medicine ( BSOM) provides access to simulation-based education for learners across the Health Sciences Campus and ECU Health Medical Center. The program collaborates closely with ECU Health Medical Center in offering educational activities to Graduate Medical Education, EastCare, and other hospital staff. The mission of the Clinical Simulation Program is to promote excellence in clinical care, promote patient and learner safety, and improve multidisciplinary team performance using simulation modalities. The ICSP is a fully accredited program by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The ICSP is moving into a new 30,000 sq ft Simulation Center in the Center for Medical Education building in 2027.
Primary Purpose of Position
The BSOM Interprofessional Nurse Educator will provide interprofessional clinical, educational, and technical expertise in the development and implementation of simulation-based activities. This position will participate in, and facilitate interprofessional scenarios with medical students, residents, and other providers from multiple disciplines. This position will also instruct procedural skills within his/her field of expertise using task trainers. This position will perform outreach to promote the BSOM Simulation Program's regional capabilities and facilitate educational sessions as assigned.
Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • An active Registered Nurse North Carolina License is required. Active licensure must be maintained throughout employment.


  • Bachelor's degree plus at least three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in a critical care setting (such as emergency department, intensive care unit); or associates degree with 7 years' experience in a critical area setting.
  • Candidate must be eligible for American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, BLS instructor certification, and successful instructor alignment with ECU Health Center for Learning and Performance.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Registered Nurse North Carolina License is required.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Adult Educational theory, methodologies, and delivery
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of care across the lifespan (pediatric, adult, OB, geriatric)
  • Experience teaching using simulation-based education
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator certification (CHSE) from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH)
  • Active BLS, ACLS, and PALs certifications

  • BLS Instructor Certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a track record of scholarly dissemination in presentation and publication form
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Interpersonal, collaborative, negotiation, team-building and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
