THE POSITION

The Department of Agriculture is excited to welcome a diligent per diem Associate Judge for Harness Racing to join the team at Meadows Racetrack. In this fulfilling position, you will help uphold racing rules, support accurate decision making, and maintain the integrity of each event. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the fairness and accuracy of harness racing by helping enforce rules and reviewing race activity. You will work closely with the Presiding Judge to investigate concerns, verify race information, and guide racing decisions. As an Associate Judge for Harness Racing, you will perform the following duties:

  • Rule Enforcement: Investigate possible racing violations, review interferences, and observe driver and horse performances
  • Race Monitoring: Watch horses before and during races, remove unsafe entries, and assist in determining accurate race results
  • Record Management: Maintain judges books, accident reports, racing notices, and daily documentation for the Commission
  • Hearing Participation: Support hearings, review complaints, and assist in resolving issues related to racing decisions
  • Entry Verification: Open and verify entries, oversee post position drawings, and review race programs for accuracy
  • Public Communication: Answer questions from the public, horsemen, and track staff regarding rulings and racing procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Per diem employment
  • Typical work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Post Employment Requirement:

  • This position is required to obtain a Commission Employee License.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must posses Racing Officials Accreditation Program (ROAP) Accreditation.
  • You must possess United States Trotting Association (USTA) Certification.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
