Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Parnall Office located in Jackson,MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Associate System Protection Engineer will support the design, analysis, and protection of voltage power systems. The incumbent will aid the implementation of protection schemes for our transmission and distribution systems by completing tasks in support of more senior engineers as directed and delegated. Help with the development of control philosophies and sequences for our generation, transmission, and distribution systems. This position is responsible for ensuring the proper operation of the protective systems on Consumers Energy's 138kV and 46kV distribution system and responding to emergent fault events and disturbances affecting the high-voltage distribution and generation systems to support real-time operations and customer outage restoration. Responsibilities include conducting detailed analyses of fault events to verify proper system performance, identifying protection scheme misoperations, and partnering with Engineering and Operations to develop corrective action plans. This position also develops monitoring recommendations and communication settings, supports the evaluation of new technologies and equipment such as communication devices and line sensors, and assists with NERC compliance activities, including PRC-002, PRC-004, and PRC-005.
