Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling Summary The Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling is a technical lead responsible for supporting the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance of low-voltage and structured cabling systems. This role provides advanced field support, oversees technical aspects of projects, ensures installations meet quality standards, and serves as a key liaison between field operations, project management, estimating, and customers. The position requires strong technical expertise, the ability to work independently, and involvement throughout the project lifecycle, from pre-construction planning to project closeout. Key Responsibilities Install, operate, test, troubleshoot, and diagnose structured cabling and low-voltage systems. Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manuals; create shop drawings and project submittals. Provide technical leadership and support to field staff, ensuring quality installations and successful project execution. Conduct equipment testing, system verification, quality inspections, and punch list management. Oversee technical aspects of projects and support project managers during installation and closeout. Perform site assessments and field walks to identify project requirements, existing conditions, infrastructure constraints, and change order opportunities. Develop detailed scope narratives, system outlines, and constructability recommendations to support estimating and proposal development. Coordinate with subcontractors during pre-construction activities, including site walks, scope reviews, and bid collection. Serve as a technical liaison between field operations and pre-construction/estimating teams to ensure project feasibility and alignment. Assist with product demonstrations and provide technical expertise to sales teams when needed. Support quality and training initiatives by developing guidance, best practices, and job readiness materials for field leaders. Assist in training Leads and Superintendents on project setup, documentation management, workflow planning, and startup execution. Key Success Measures Accurate installation, testing, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems. High-quality project execution with minimal rework and successful project closeouts. Strong technical support for field and project teams. Effective collaboration with estimating, subcontractors, customers, and operations personnel. Consistent adherence to quality, documentation, and operational standards. Min USD $27.00/Hr. Max USD $33.00/Hr.

Qualifications

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and lead others to create, develop and implement project process improvement(s). Must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners. Must have proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s). Must be able to diagnose and fix problems with existing equipment and new installs. Must be enthusiastic, passionate, patient and a critical thinker. Must be able to communicate with the customer and have excellent customer service skills. Must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements. Must be able to travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed. Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements: Must have at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency; Bachelor's Degree preferred. Will have at least 3-4 year's commercial low voltage/structured cabling experience. Must be able to work well with other people Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project). Must meet Company minimum driving standards. Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously. Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.
