Job Summary

The GIS Specialist is responsible for validating the accuracy, quality, and integrity of geographic information system (GIS) data while supporting the implementation and testing of enterprise mapping solutions. This role performs data validation, quality assurance testing, spatial analysis, and documentation review to ensure mapping products meet established standards. The QA/QC Specialist collaborates with project teams to support system testing, maintain data integrity, and contribute to ongoing GIS initiatives within a utility environment.

Job Responsibilities



  • Validate the accuracy of legacy mapping data migrated into enterprise GIS platforms.
  • Review land base symmetry, structural connectivity, and cable connectivity to ensure data integrity.
  • Verify attribute data for linear and point features related to electric and gas infrastructure.
  • Perform map symbology updates and recommend solutions to improve map visualization.
  • Conduct system testing to verify the functionality and performance of GIS mapping applications.
  • Maintain organized databases, spreadsheets, and project documentation.
  • Prioritize quality assurance activities and manage project timelines to ensure timely completion.
  • Review test plans, test scripts, and project documentation to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Provide feedback to improve testing documentation and support approval processes.
  • Utilize Azure DevOps or similar testing tools to manage test planning, execution, reporting, and documentation.
  • Perform spatial queries, spatial analysis, and map development activities.
  • Support additional GIS projects and quality assurance initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using Esri ArcMap and GIS applications.
  • Experience working within a utility environment required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Esri GIS, including MXD creation, spatial queries, and spatial analysis.
  • Experience performing GIS data validation, quality assurance, and system testing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps or similar testing software preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment.


Education



  • Bachelor's degree required.
