Job Description We have an exciting opportunity for a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Specialist at UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, based in our Evanston, Illinois, office. The HSE Specialist develops, implements, and supports HSE programs across research and operational environments. This role partners with cross-functional teams to manage risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a proactive safety culture. This is a hybrid position (Wednesday & Thursday onsite) at our Evanston, IL. office. What you'll learn and achieve: As the HSE Specialist, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:
Develop, implement, and maintain HSE programs, policies, and procedures. Deliver training to employees on HSE policies, procedures, and best practices. Support investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses, including root cause analysis and corrective actions. Collaborate with HSE team members and cross-functional teams to address safety concerns and promote continuous improvement across the organization. Maintains systems and documentation related to HSE activities, including incident reports, training records, and regulatory permits. Stay informed about changes in HSE regulations and industry best practices and support organizational compliance efforts. Assist in developing and communicating emergency response plans and procedures. Conduct inspections, audits, and corrective action tracking Contribute to promoting a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability throughout the organization. Contribute to analyzing trends with HSE metrics and dashboards (e.g. incident rates, training completions, audit findings). Perform other duties as assigned.

Professional education and experience requirements for the role include:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, or a related field preferred. Minimum 4 years of experience in Health, Safety, Environment or related field Previous experience in a research or laboratory setting preferred but not required.
