What you will enjoy doing*
- You will develop expertise in food freezing systems and drive commercialization of cryogenic technologies, while supporting applications in pharmaceutical and wastewater industries.
- Apply mechanical engineering best practices, including CAD and drawing standards, BOM creation, MRP, tolerance analysis, and management of change processes.
- Lead design teams through product development, design reviews, risk assessments (PHA/FMEA), verification activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Further, you will utilize strong problem-solving methodologies (DMAIC, 8D, root cause analysis) to develop innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Perform engineering calculations and equipment sizing for food processing systems, including heat transfer, capacity, airflow, flow rates, torque requirements, and electro-mechanical components such as valves, conveyors, fans, and motors.
- Ensure successful project execution by managing schedules, budgets, technical requirements, and compliance with engineering standards and design criteria.
- Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) practices, conduct cost-benefit analyses, identify risks, and recommend improvements to enhance product performance and manufacturability.
- And you will collaborate effectively with customers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, fabricators, and global engineering partners to support design, fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, drawings, reports, and project updates while communicating progress and results to stakeholders.
- Travel to customer and fabrication sites as needed to support project execution, technical support, issue resolution, and equipment validation.
What makes you great
- You have 5+ years of experience in application and/or design engineering, preferably supporting food processing or food freezing applications.
- Strong mechanical design experience, including sheet metal, machined components, fabrication processes, and proficiency with CAD systems (AutoDesk Inventor preferred).
- Experience designing and supporting industrial systems, including conveyors, motors, controls, fans, valves, PLCs, and related electro-mechanical equipment.
- You have a background working in manufacturing environments with a strong focus on safety, Lean principles, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Ability to read, interpret, and modify engineering documentation, including assembly drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and part drawings.
- Experience leading technical teams and managing projects, including developing schedules, milestones, deliverables, and execution plans.
- You have familiarity with cryogenic technologies, food processing equipment, and commercialization of new products or applications strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and business acumen, with the ability to influence stakeholders and explain technical concepts across all organizational levels.
- Experience with ERP systems (JDE, Oracle, or similar) and knowledge of USDA and NSF requirements is a plus.
- Knowledge of PLC programming, ladder logic, AutoCAD Electrical, Allen Bradley RS Logix, Siemens controls, and willingness to travel for customer visits, site surveys, installations, and startups is preferred.
