Summary:

UNC Hospitals Department of Pharmacy has an immediate opening for a highly motivated Pharmacy Technician II interested in supporting the Adult Neurology Clinic.

This position will support the Rapid Access Neuroimmunology and Neuromuscular program, an innovative ambulatory care model designed to improve timely access to care for patients with complex neurological conditions. The technician will play a critical role in facilitating rapid initiation of high-cost and specialty therapies, with the goal of improving patient access and reducing unnecessary emergency department visits and hospital admissions.

Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will serve as a key member of the interdisciplinary care team and will focus on medication access and coordination activities rather than traditional dispensing functions. This role will partner closely with Clinical Pharmacist Practitioners (CPPs), neurologists, nurses, infusion services, and specialty pharmacy teams to ensure efficient and timely care for patients with new or worsening neurological disease.

Core responsibilities will include coordinating benefits investigations, prior authorizations, and financial assistance programs; supporting scheduling and coordination of infusion therapies; and facilitating medication access for complex treatment regimens. The technician will also assist with patient communication, triage of non-clinical requests, and resolution of access-based barriers to care.

The Pharmacy Technician will contribute to care coordination efforts across the ambulatory and infusion settings, helping to streamline workflows and support rapid therapy initiation. This role will also participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing access, efficiency, and patient experience within the NEU_04 program.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate benefits investigations, prior authorizations, and financial assistance processes for specialty and high-cost therapies
  2. Facilitate scheduling and coordination of infusion services and related appointments
  3. Assist with medication access workflows to support timely therapy initiation
  4. Communicate with patients and care teams to resolve non-clinical barriers to medication access
  5. Triage and respond to requests that do not require pharmacist clinical judgment
  6. Support interdisciplinary care coordination across clinic, infusion, and specialty pharmacy services
  7. Contribute to process improvement and workflow optimization initiatives
  8. Perform other duties under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist as appropriate
