Position Summary

The Assistant Controller - Property Management oversees the day-to-day operations of the Property Management Accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, timely month-end close, and efficient accounting operations for TCB's affordable housing portfolio. This role partners with Property Management, Asset Management, Development, Treasury, Executive Leadership, and external auditors while providing leadership to Accounting Managers and supporting continuous process improvement.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Development



  • Supervise and mentor Real Estate Accounting Managers and support staff development.
  • Assist with workload planning, coaching, performance management, and hiring.
  • Develop and maintain accounting procedures and SOPs.


Financial Reporting



  • Oversee month-end close and review financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Review Statements of Operations and Balance Sheets for accuracy.
  • Support year-end close and annual audits.


Treasury & Cash Management



  • Coordinate with Treasury on cash management, wire transfers, and bank accounts.
  • Review emergency payment requests and cash flow needs.


Accounts Payable Oversight



  • Support AP with complex payment issues and aging payables.
  • Monitor outstanding invoices and assist with payment escalations.


Systems & Yardi Administration



  • Maintain Yardi Management Fee Module and Debt Manager.
  • Post recurring and bulk journal entries.
  • Train staff on Yardi accounting modules and process improvements.


Audit & Compliance



  • Coordinate audit preparation and maintain audit documentation.
  • Respond to auditor requests and monitor compliance requirements.


Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • Partner with Property Management, Asset Management, Development, Treasury, HR, Executive Leadership, and external auditors.


Special Projects



  • Support acquisitions, transitions, insurance claims, distributions, and other departmental initiatives.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Affordable housing and Yardi Voyager experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge, Excel skills, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Salary range $110-$130K
