Position: Surgical Liaison

Department: PACU

Schedule: 36 hours, Day/Evening, No Weekends or Holidays

Primarily 7a-730pm, with the ability to rotate to either 8am-830p or 9am-930pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Surgical Liaison is responsible to keep family members informed of the patient's movement through their surgery or procedure. They support families as they contribute to making their wait more comfortable, and assisting in facilitating communication with the rest of the surgical and procedural team. The Surgical liaison reports to the IPP Nursing leadership team, and the PACU and Pre-op Charge Nurses.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Formally greets patients and families when they arrive to waiting room and IPP area
  • Assists with explaining and supporting the BMC visitor policies and rules
  • Triages and assists visitors who are at BMC to visit family and friends
  • Assists Nurse in determining the patients significant other support person, identifying with a color coded paper badge, and explains the use of the EPIC movement board
  • Works closely with pre-operative or pre-procedural staff, and post -operative or post-procedural staff, to facilitate visitation and communication on progress
  • Directs and escorts visitation with identified visitors per Charge Nurse/Procedural Team instructions
  • Supports and protects patient privacy and safety
  • Supports and protects comfortable and inviting waiting room
  • Supports comfort, privacy, and safety of visitors of surgical and procedural patients by helping to familiarize visitors with availability of food, restrooms, WIFI, and any services available to visitors
  • Assists in any survey creation, distribution, or collection
  • Assists in and contributes to any quality improvement measures identified
  • Knowledgeable regarding public safety policies, chain of command, and the use of security when needed
  • Knowledgeable concerning regulatory compliance policies surrounding protected health information (PHI), and visitation.
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • n/a

EXPERIENCE:


  • Experience within a surgical or procedural area preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Nursing Assistant experience is preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills are required to interact with internal and external contacts in a courteous and patient focused manner.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving customer issues.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information.
  • Ability to effectively handle challenging situations and to balance multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated self-motivated attitude.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel & Outlook) and web/internet is required.
  • Experience with EPIC is preferred

Compensation Range:

$14.90- $20.91

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
