Essential Job Duties
Responsibilities for the Academic Coordinator include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing programs, services, and activities for supporting and monitoring academic progress toward degree for students in assigned sports facilitating and arranging academic support services
  • Assisting in the recruiting process of student athletes
  • Communicating academic information and concerns to coaches/athletic administrators
  • Collaborating with other staff members both inside and outside of ASPSA to support students
  • Serving on or leading unit committees
  • Teaching an introductory to the university course


Academic Advising & Student Support

  • Oversee structured academic support plans for assigned teams
  • Serve as primary academic advisor for Exploratory Studies student-athletes on assigned teams
  • Monitor academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes on assigned teams
  • Meet weekly with freshmen and at-risk student-athletes

Instruction & Student Development
  • Teach seminar courses for first-year student-athletes
Compliance & Eligibility

  • Interpret and implement NCAA, NC State, and ASPSA policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with academic eligibility requirements

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate academic information and concerns to coaches and athletic administrators through meetings, email, and written reports
  • Meet virtually or in person with prospective student-athletes during the recruiting process

Service & Professional Development

  • Actively participate in ASPSA committee work
  • Attend campus professional development opportunities

  • Participate in required evening and weekend work to support student-athletes, recruiting, academic programming, and department initiatives
Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree required
  • 2-4 years of experience advising student-athletes at the university level

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with a culturally varied population
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a high-functioning team

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of experience advising student-athletes at the university level with a demonstrated ability to interact with students on a variety of issues.
