Campus Enterprises is NC State University's division of retail and hospitality organizations - NC State Dining, NC State Stores, Lonnie Poole Golf Course, NC State Student Centers (Witherspoon and Talley), and the One Card Office. Each department is dedicated to providing service excellence, value, and enrichment of the student experience in support of academic success.

The Campus Enterprises Marketing and Communications office executes strategic and creative development of marketing communications that support the division and its departments with integrated communication solutions that include creating and consulting on digital communications; social media strategy; writing and editing; outreach and promotion; marketing strategy; situational communication; design; video; and photography.
The Marketing and Communications office also enforces the university brand and style guidelines and supports University Communications and Marketing and other campus marketing teams on various university-wide initiatives.

Essential Job Duties
The Communications and Outreach Specialist is a strategic storyteller dedicated to the NC State Dining brand. This role leads the department's editorial voice, media relations and student insights. They ensure the community understands the values, nutrition and sustainability efforts behind every meal.
Key Responsibilities:


  • PR and Editorial Leadership: Develop, write and edit news releases, digital copy, cover stories and newsletters. Pitch stories to campus and trade publications. Identify opportunities to position team members as subject-matter experts for presentations, articles and webinars. Lead development of award submissions.

  • Research and Insights: Design and implement focus groups and research initiatives to evaluate program effectiveness and drive improvements.

  • Presentation and Advocacy: Serve as a presenter for orientation and informational sessions. Coordinate the department's presence at large-scale outreach events (Open House, etc.).

  • Portfolio Management: Act as the primary point of contact for residential and catering operations. Develop and implement localized marketing and communication plans to promote specific menus and services. Serve as the primary point of contact for nutrition and sustainability messaging, aligning with presentation and advocacy. Provide support for events, ensuring they are well promoted across digital and traditional channels. Provide on-site support as needed.

  • Brand Standards: Collaborate with the visual arts specialist to ensure the editorial voice aligns with the visual brand identity, maintaining a cohesive look and feel across all storytelling platforms.

  • Creative Collaboration: Partner with the visual arts specialist to translate narrative concepts, research data and editorial stories into compelling visual layouts for print and digital publications.

  • Collaborative Strategy: Co-lead long-range marketing and communication goals and policies with the marketing and digital brand specialist, including overarching communication channels such as monthly newsletters and other holistic communication initiatives.



In addition, support wider initiatives that promote Campus Enterprises as a whole, as needed.
Other Responsibilities

  • Model the Division's mission and values and foster a positive, cohesive workplace and congeniality among co-workers.
  • Understand the goals and culture of the organization and understand how employees' work activities, teamwork and customer service impact clients. Work with your supervisor and colleagues to understand these goals and the culture.
  • Adhere to all University policies, procedures and regulations, as well as the Division standard operating practices and protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the Division of Campus Enterprises business needs are met.
  • Position may need to travel to NC State Dining units using an NC State vehicle.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications


  • Marketing Experience: Professional-level experience in planning and/or executing marketing and communication initiatives across multiple channels, including digital and print.

  • Communication Skills: Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, able to vary writing style to communicate with a range of target audiences. Knowledge of AP Style and Brand guidelines. Demonstrated experience creating a variety of content, including news releases, white papers, presentations, social media, newsletters and more, according to a content calendar/schedule.

  • Technical Proficiency: Google Suite products, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc. Experience working in a project management system and an email marketing system. Basic knowledge of the WordPress platform.

  • Work Environment: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution. Self-starter who is comfortable working independently and in a team environment. Ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision. Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or communications or a directly related field from an accredited institution
  • 2-5 years of professional-level experience in planning and/or executing marketing
  • and communication initiatives across multiple channels, including digital and print
  • Experience in event scheduling, planning and budget management
  • Experience in a public university or non-profit organizational setting
  • Experience with project coordination, timelines and ensuring on-time deliverables
  • Ability to work within pre-determined brand standards.

  • A valid North Carolina driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date.
