Role: Military Writing Expert (SME): Operations, Logistics, and Medical Logistics (Class VIII) - Remote Opportunity

Purpose:
We are hiring military writing experts in order to develop fine-tuned LLMs for national security customers. You will be a pioneer in accelerating the adoption of customized LLMs by government customers. This position is a rare opportunity at a high-growth startup to be a contributor in a cutting-edge field. As a military writing expert, you will sit at the quality assurance stage of generative AI tasks. Your primary job will be reviewing and writing analyses of doctrinal, operational, and strategic documents, which will later be used to train and evaluate AI models. You will also train and mentor junior AI writing specialists working on these projects. You will regularly interface with machine learning engineers and operations teammates to optimize our workflows for improved model outcomes.
Role summary:
  • Data Engineering & Auditing: Review, critique, and author high-quality, ground-truth text datasets (including complex analyses of doctrinal, operational, and strategic documents) to drive model optimization.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface directly with Machine Learning (ML) engineers to align on frameworks for model comparison, prompt-response pairing, and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF).
  • Workflow Optimization: Partner with the operations team to refine data pipelines, scaling up the efficiency and accuracy of generative AI tasks.
  • Mentorship: Train, guide, and mentor junior AI writing specialists to maintain rigorous military standards across all project outputs.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Service as a Commissioned Officer: A proven track record as a U.S. military officer, to include at least five years as a Company Grade Officer (O-3 or higher) managing or supporting logistical planning.
  • Staff Experience: Direct experience within a G-4 (Division/Corps) or J-4 (Joint Staff) directorate with specialized oversight of Class VIII (Medical Materiel) supply chains and theater distribution.
  • Service-Specific Credentials: You must hold (or have held) one of the following specific Area of Concentration (AOC) or Designator codes:
    • U.S. Army (Medical Service Corps): (Highly Preferred)
      • AOC 70H (Health Services Plans, Operations, Intelligence, Security, and Training)
      • AOC 70K (Health Services Materiel Officer)
      • AOC 70K with Skill Identifier 9I (Health Facility Planner)
      • AOC 90A (Multifunctional Logistician)
    • U.S. Navy (Medical Service Corps):
      • Designator 1805 (Plans, Operations, and Medical Intelligence)
      • Designator 2300 with AQD 6FM (Fleet Marine Force Medical Logistics)
    • U.S. Marine Corps
      • 0402: Logistics Officer
      • 3002: Ground Supply Officer
  • Technical Mindset: A deep, active interest in the intersection of AI/ML technologies and national security.
  • Startup Agility: Exceptional outcome-orientation that is adaptable, tenacious and execution-focused in ambiguous environments.

Work Schedule:

The work will be performed during normal business hours (8:30am to 5:00pm) Monday-Friday, although work may occasionally need to be performed outside these hours, including in response to outages or other emergencies.

Pay:
$57.90 per hour
