Position Summary

Under general supervision, oversees and provides operational and administrative supervision for the programs, projects, and activities of the Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII). These include: assistance with fiscal administration for the unit (primary fiscal administration is provided by Academic Affairs Fiscal Shared Services); support for the Latin American Studies (LAS) program (interfacing with Graduate Studies and course scheduling); supervision of student staff and selected temporary positions; facilities and front desk management; assistance with LAII committees management (membership, awards processing and administration); support for meetings, events, conferences, and visiting scholars (travel arrangements, logistics, payments); other duties include annual equipment inventory, J1 Scholar Coordinator, support of LAII and LAS directors.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 1 year of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success in developing and administering complex professional projects and programs
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communications skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication
  • Experience with fiscal administration
  • Experience with student support and advising
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Latin American history, culture, and society
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Experience with UNM systems or their equivalent
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree
