I. JOB OVERVIEW






Job Description Summary:
The Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) at the George Washington University in Washington, DC is dedicated to the mission of leading innovation through learning. Our students emerge from our programs enriched in theory and practice and become agents of change in education, counseling, and organizational leadership. The Office of Student Life supports GSEHD's mission by proactively developing relationships with prospective applicants and students, and helping them navigate their academic journey from admissions through graduation and post-graduate planning.
The Office of Student Life (OSL) seeks a student-centered Senior Student Success Coach to coach graduate students in career development, offer academic advising, and student services support. They will empower students to identify, pursue and achieve their professional goals through supportive individual coaching and group processes; develop and deliver skill-building programs (face-to-face and online) including orientation, professional development workshops, and job search seminars. They will evaluate effectiveness of the skill-building programs and strategize with their OSL colleagues and the Assistant Dean of Student Life to continually improve programs. They will collaborate closely with the OSL team, GSEHD faculty, and university administrative offices to support students' degree progress and post-graduate success.
Academic Coaching

  • Provides on-going concierge-level student services and academic coaching to support an assigned caseload of graduate students from the point of matriculation through graduation.
  • Works with Associate and Assistant Dean of Student Life to manage enrollment records and increase retention and completion rates by managing administrative processes related to student progress including, but not limited to new student on-boarding, registration assistance, academic standing intervention, comprehensive exam support, and graduation clearance.
  • Maintains knowledge of current School and University policies and is able to communicate them effectively to faculty, staff, and students and apply them appropriately to specific situations.
  • Assists with the collection and reporting of statistics and data on an ongoing basis and for various annual reports. In consultation with the Assistant Dean crafts learning objectives and assesses office professional development programs and services


Career Coaching

  • Supports the career development of a caseload of graduate students and alumni by coaching them through goal-setting, career strategy, job search strategy, networking, application materials, interviewing, salary negotiation for internships and employment.
  • Manage professional development programs including the design, delivery (online and in person), and assessment.
  • Interfaces with employers looking to hire GSEHD students and alumni and connects them with the appropriate GSEHD stakeholders and campus resources.

Student Engagement

  • Works closely with colleagues and offices across the University to coordinate graduate student activities and major events, including New Student Orientation, Preview Day, and Commencement.
  • As a member of the Office of Student Life, works with the leadership and student organizations to provide engagement opportunities for students. Serves staff advisor for student organizations.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. This is a hybrid position with some days on-campus and some days remote.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or related field highly desirable but not required.
  • Career coaching/counseling experience, preferably with graduate students.
  • Academic advising experience, preferably with graduate students.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, training abilities, and public speaking both in person and online.
  • Ability to design, plan, deliver, and evaluate programs, workshops, seminars/webinars.
  • Demonstrated success in teamwork and in building cross-functional and interdepartmental relationships and successfully collaborating across roles and departments.
  • Experience analyzing university policy, explaining it to stakeholders, and applying it to specific situations.
  • Proficiency in Handshake, Salesforce, Banner, and Tableau

Hiring Range $47,073.26 - $77,725.62
