What to Expect
The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting technical work in a wide range of EHS disciplines throughout design, commissioning, and operational phases of complex systems. This individual will serve as discipline lead for the EHS Engineering team, interacting with many multi-disciplinary teams (technology development, manufacturing engineering, factory design, facility engineering, etc.) and ensure regulatory compliance can be met in new equipment, processes, facilities, and design changes.
The Process Safety Engineer must work on company expansion projects, self-initiated projects and those driven by concerns and issues reported by employees and stakeholders. The ideal candidate takes pride in their analytical abilities to apply principles of process safety in design and manufacturing, knowledge of regulations, organization skills, attention to detail and ability to solve problems quickly and creatively. Work Schedule: 40 hours a week across one of multiple Nevada PSM-covered facilities or supporting sites, Monday through Friday. Hours will typically be 8am-5pm but ability to accommodate schedule adjustments will be periodically required.
What You'll Do
- Manage the site Process safety management (PSM) program where applicable to relevant processes, in accordance with site PSM procedure and OSHA 1910.119
- Facilitate Risk Assessments for process and facility design: HAZOPs, HAZIDs FMEA studies, Dust Hazard Analyses (DHA), Equipment Safety Reviews, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Consequence Analysis, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA)
- Collaborate with stake holders to investigate any unintended events which occur in PSM covered system(s) and identify corrective and preventative action; drive for implementation of these actions
- Work with system owners to identify and incorporate applicable code requirements and best practices associated with risk reduction or catastrophe mitigation efforts
- Perform process EHS review/approval as part of the Management of Change (MOC) process
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, Process Safety, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience in chemical process, hydrometallurgy, battery, semi-conductor, or pharmaceutical industry is preferred
- Ability to communicate and collaborate across multiple levels of the organization especially when action is needed to address a hazard or mitigate potential risk
- Experience in facilitating various risk assessment and process hazard assessment methodologies such as: HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, DHAs
- Working ability to read and understand Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Mechanical, Electrical, and Architectural permit sets, CAD drawings
- Ability to manage and organize multiple projects with competing priorities and different time lines
- Experience in meeting industry regulatory or otherwise best practice guidance such as NFPA 652, NFPA 654, ISA 84, IEC 61508, IEC 65111, CCPS Risk Based Process Safety, Functional Safety (ISO 13849)
