Make it happen at Hopkins. SUMMARY Under the direction of the JHSCS Director of Clinical Operations and the JHHS Senior Director of Perioperative Services plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates cleaning, disinfection and sterilization activities for the JHSCS Sterile Processing Department and select JHM ambulatory clinics. Provides leadership to achieve departmental and institutional objectives within a rapidly changing environment. Assumes responsibilities for maintaining adequate inventory of instruments and equipment, and knowledge and skill in the use of instruments and equipment. Responsible for all processes associated with cleaning, assembly and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, storage of specific instrumentation, surgical sets and patient care equipment. Manages staff members at multiple geographical locations and plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates certification and other educational programs. Develops, in collaboration with JHH HEIC, new training programs to meet organizational as well as departmental needs as determined by needs assessment, regulatory requirements, and other pertinent measures. Develops measurement tools to monitor and report quality and productivity within department, on a regular basis. Follows all regulation of AAMI, AORN, and other regulatory agencies. Maintains compliance with JCAHO Standards and other regulatory agencies as appropriate. Participates in JHSCS regulatory and accreditation surveys. Provides oversight of and direction for instrument movement across multiple JHM entities, including JHM clinics. Serves as a leader for multi-entity CSP projects and initiatives. Promotes innovation and excellence in clinical, service and team performance. Education: Bachelor degree in business management or operational science required such as industrial engineering. Master degree preferred. Certification in sterile processing required with additional course work in medical terminology, quality assurance, quality control, and business management strongly recommended. Demonstrated knowledge of theories and practices of training and development, organizational behavior, change management, group dynamics, adult and organizational learning modes is required. Knowledge: Requires a complete understanding of healthcare policies and regulatory requirements for sterile processing functions. Requires a broad knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instrument processing and sterilization. Knowledge of productivity and workflow management required. Prefer candidates with a minimum of 5 years prior experience in sterile processing, manufacturing or factory operational and management experience. Professional level of knowledge in educational development and business management. Complete understanding of ASC-wide policies and related areas within the Central Sterile Services Department, as well as a knowledge of inventory control, distribution and purchasing, as is normally acquired through five (5) or more years of experience. Knowledge of International Association of Health Care Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) standards. Skills: Requires significant leadership and management skills. Must have advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital management and administration. Analyze and interpret complex data sets and reports to improve patient and quality care outcomes. Negotiate resolution of issues that are consistent with organizational objectives. Problem-solve and appropriately confront issues. Create a climate that fosters compassionate care, innovation, cooperation, collaboration and teamwork. Use automated systems to access, transmit and product information. Achieve results by effectively working through subordinates and others. Adapt to rapidly changing priorities and environment. Required Licensure Certification: CRCST Certified Registered Central Sterile Service Technician Maintains continuing education in field of sterile processing and perioperative services operations and equipment as through membership in related organizations and seminars and workshops to enhance knowledge base and awareness of national trends. Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience with a track record of progression is required. Machines, Tools, Equipment: Computer applications related to sterile processing operations. i.e. sterilizer / instrument management. Understanding of instrument cleaning and sterilization equipment. General office and communication equipment. Shift : Day Shift (8 am - 4:30 pm) Salary Range: Minimum 45.65/hour - Maximum 79.91/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
