Summary:
Under general supervision, the Carpenter performs a variety of carpentry tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of wood structures, fixtures, and furnishings. This role is ideal for an experienced tradesperson who takes pride in craftsmanship, problem-solving, and supporting a safe, well-maintained environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform general carpentry work, including demolition and reconstruction of walls, drywall installation, and suspended ceiling installation.
- Design, build, install, and repair shelves, bulletin boards, desktops, cabinets, partitions, and other fixtures using blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Install and repair doors, frames, windows, wall shelving, door closers, and hinges.
- Build custom fixtures and specialty items such as picture frames, coat racks, and other requested furnishings.
- Estimate labor, materials, and time requirements for carpentry projects.
- Safely operate a variety of hand and power tools, including saws, lathes, sanders, drills, drill presses, and hammers.
- Perform minor repairs to furniture and equipment, including chairs, desks, and other wood furnishings.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.
- Follow all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trade, Technical, or Vocational training in a related field preferred.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of direct carpentry experience involving wood construction, maintenance, and repair required.
  • Additional experience in cabinet making or related carpentry specialties preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from drawings, blueprints, sketches, and measurements.
  • Strong math and measurement skills.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move lumber, doors, and other heavy materials weighing more than 70 pounds.
  • Commitment to maintaining equipment and work areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to established policies, procedures, and safety practices.
