Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to design, develop, maintain, test, and enhance complex software systems supporting mission-critical applications. This position involves developing solutions for processing-intensive analytics, large-scale data sets, algorithm development, real-time systems, and business information systems.

The ideal candidate will have extensive software engineering experience, strong full-stack development capabilities, and advanced proficiency in C, C++, and Python. This individual will contribute to the design, development, integration, and sustainment of complex communications systems requiring real-time data processing and Radio Frequency domain knowledge.

This role is based in Hanover, Maryland.

What will you do?

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance complex software applications and systems.
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design, functional, and performance requirements.
  • Design and develop new software and modify existing applications to introduce new functionality.
  • Develop software solutions using Java, Python, SQL, C/C++, and related technologies.
  • Debug existing software, identify root causes, and correct defects.
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems and operating environments.
  • Develop and optimize queries for databases and data repositories.
  • Design and implement complex database and data-repository interfaces.
  • Develop and implement algorithms to meet system functional and performance requirements.
  • Support software involving processing-intensive analytics and large-scale data sets.
  • Analyze system performance, data usage, system flows, and work processes to identify and resolve technical problems.
  • Modify software to support new hardware, changing requirements, and performance improvements.
  • Review and test software components to ensure compliance with design and system requirements.
  • Develop and execute software test procedures and document results.
  • Write, maintain, and review software and system documentation.
  • Recommend improvements to software development processes and documentation standards.
  • Support full-stack software development activities as required.
  • Develop and support containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and other technical teams to develop and integrate software solutions.
  • Provide technical input regarding hardware/software tradeoffs, software reuse, and COTS/GOTS integration.
  • Serve as a technical or team lead when appropriate to the software development process.

Do you have what it takes?

  • US Citizen with TS/SCI with Poly required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of Software Engineering experience on programs or contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
    • Four additional years of Software Engineering experience on projects involving similar software processes may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
  • Strong software development experience with:
    • Java
    • Python
    • SQL
  • Experience designing, developing, debugging, testing, and maintaining complex software systems.
  • Experience with database queries and data repositories.
  • Experience translating requirements into software design and performance requirements.
  • Experience with software integration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing algorithms.
  • Experience working independently as well as within multidisciplinary development teams.

VTG's estimated starting pay range is $200K-$220K annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
