Firmware QA Engineer (Embedded Systems & Robotics) Location: Beaverton, OR (onsite)
Contract Length: 12 months
Schedule: Full-time contract opportunity About the Role We are seeking a Firmware QA Engineer to support an innovative product development team building next-generation connected hardware solutions. This role will focus on validating firmware, hardware, and electromechanical systems to ensure product quality, reliability, and performance. You will join a fast-moving, collaborative team environment where you will help design testing strategies, build automation frameworks, run device testing, identify issues, and provide insights that improve the overall product experience. The ideal candidate has experience testing complex products that combine firmware, electronics, and physical systems and enjoys solving challenging technical problems at the intersection of hardware and software. What You'll Do
- Develop and execute comprehensive firmware and embedded system testing strategies
- Build and maintain QA pipelines and automated test frameworks
- Test and validate connected products, embedded systems, and electromechanical devices
- Perform functional, regression, integration, and system-level testing
- Partner closely with firmware, hardware, and product teams to identify and resolve issues
- Troubleshoot failures, reproduce defects, and support root cause analysis
- Analyze test results and develop quality metrics to measure product performance
- Combine quantitative testing data with qualitative observations to identify opportunities for improvement
- Help define testing standards, processes, and best practices for emerging products
- Support hands-on device testing and validation in a dynamic product development environment
What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience as a Firmware QA Engineer, Embedded QA Engineer, Hardware Test Engineer, or similar role
- Experience building and maintaining automated QA pipelines
- Hands-on experience testing products that combine software and hardware, such as:
- Robotics systems
- Wearable technology
- Connected devices
- IoT products
- Drones
- 3D printers
- Other electromechanical systems
- Strong understanding of firmware validation and embedded system testing practices
- Experience troubleshooting hardware/software integration issues
- Ability to analyze failures, identify trends, and communicate actionable recommendations
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and a passion for product quality
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hardware system testing and device validation
- Background in robotics, mechatronics, consumer electronics, automotive technology, or similar industries
- Experience creating quality scorecards, testing metrics, or validation frameworks
- Experience working in startup or highly innovative product environments
- Familiarity with automation scripting and test development tools
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams
