Job Description

Kearney & Company is seeking a Strategic Communications & Outreach Specialist to support communication planning, stakeholder engagement, and outreach initiatives across a large, geographically dispersed federal workforce. This role is ideal for a communications professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and has a passion for developing clear, impactful messaging that drives engagement and organizational alignment. Additional skills and responsibilities are defined below:

  • This role assists with creating, editing, and disseminating communication products including newsletters, digital publications, social media content, web updates, and event support materials.
  • Key responsibilities include supporting editorial planning, drafting communication products, maintaining digital platforms, and ensuring alignment with established communication plans.
  • The specialist also contributes to workforce development and training communications by transforming technical or policy information into clear, userfriendly messaging.
  • The role provides operational support for both virtual and inperson events, including coordinating logistics, preparing communication materials, and tracking engagement.
  • The Journeyman Specialist monitors communication metrics, evaluates user interaction data, and helps identify opportunities to strengthen outreach effectiveness.
  • All duties must adhere to applicable Department of the Workforce (DoW) communication guidelines, editorial standards, and digital compliance requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university
  • Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience supporting organizational communications, human capital initiatives, workforce training, or event planning in large federal agencies or organizations of 1,000+ employees
  • Minimum 3 years of experience assisting with the creation, coordination, and dissemination of outreach products and event support materials, including tracking engagement and supporting logistics for virtual and inperson events
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting content updates for websites, newsletters, SharePoint, and social media platforms in alignment with established communication plans
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate, and professional communication materials for diverse audiences
  • Experience collaborating with subject matter experts and stakeholders to gather information and support messaging development
  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in federal or defense communication environments
  • Familiarity with DoD/DoW branding, editorial standards, visual information guidelines, digital publishing requirements, and Section 508 accessibility compliance
  • Experience supporting highvisibility events, conferences, executive forums, or training sessions
  • Experience with content management systems, SharePoint, collaboration platforms, and digital communication tools used across federal organizations
  • Ability to interpret communication metrics, track engagement trends, and provide recommendations for improving outreach effectiveness
  • Knowledge of workforce development or training communications

The expected salary range for this position is between $69,000 and $105,000. This range is representative of base pay only and does not include straight time pay for hours worked over 40 per week, company contributions towards paid benefits, and/or bonuses. Actual compensation (meeting or exceeding the range) will be determined based on specific experience, education, work location, clearance level, and other factors permitted by law. This position is eligible for bonuses (when applicable).
