Accountant - Global

This hire will be required to be in the Maryland office.

Ciena is seeking an Accountant who will be primarily responsible for the accurate accounting for and reporting of Ciena's third party Royalties. He/she will be responsible for the maintenance and tracking of royalties due, as well as the preparation of quarterly reports for third party software. This individual will record accruals and other journal entries, prepare account reconciliations, analyze fluctuations and trends. In addition, this individual will assist with timecard tracking and accrual for the services team.

Responsibilities

  • Track and calculate royalties due to vendors
  • Work with Product Line Management team and Indirect Procurement Lead to review new royalty agreements to ensure appropriate tracking and reporting occurs
  • Provide quarterly reports to third party software vendors and initiate payments as required
  • Prepare necessary month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Work with Product Line Management & Indirect Procurement teams to ensure that all the necessary part number codes are being maintained in the royalty tracking spreadsheets
  • Evaluate, identify and recommend process improvements where needed
  • Work independently and be able to communicate with all levels of organization
  • Timecard accruals for Services team
  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • BS Degree - Accounting
  • Minimum two to four years of experience in Accounting/Finance
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Attention to Detail
  • Dependable & team player
  • Experience with Automated Accounting Software (Oracle desired)

The annual pay range for this position is $63,900 - $102,100 USD

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
