Job Description
General Purpose of Job: Responds to requests for Paramedic level services from areas within the Emergency Department. Completes patient care tasks within the scope of the Paramedic/EMT scope of practice. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Responds to requests for paramedic level services from areas within the emergency department in a timely and safe manner.
- Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
- Ensures emergency preparedness equipment is ready for response at all times.
- Assists with codes and critical care patients within the emergency department at the paramedic level, including interdepartmental transport and monitoring.
- The paramedic performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of Nursing with documentation of proper training and skills evaluation.
- Assists charge nurse and/or triage nurse in assessing, prioritizing, and maintaining patient flow and assists in reassessing patient waiting to be seen.
- Participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development
- Participates in community activities, which improve the public's understanding of the EMS system. .
- Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
Job Requirements
| General Requirements |
* EMT/Paramedic licensure required * Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support will be mandatory within 2 months of hire. |
| Work Experience |
* Demonstrated competency for Administering 12 lead EKG, point of Care Testing, C-spine immobilization, Foley catheter initiation, maintenance, and removal, Peripheral IV starts, lab draws, maintenance, and removal, and Application of orthopedic splinting devices. * Preferred - Two years of experience |
| Education |
* High school diploma or GED * Preferred - Associates degree |
| Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* A knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, some pathophysiology and anatomy, and basic math. * An ability to multi task, follow direction, remain calm and organized in crisis. * A willingness to learn, adhere to policy and provide necessary documentation of training/competency. * Simple math skills. * An ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills. * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job. * Preferred - EKG Rhythm interpretation for transport |
