Job Description

Are you looking for a fantastic career at Aqua? We have a great opportunity for a Facility Operator located in Western Hancock County, Indiana. We are seeking an experienced wastewater operator with a Class 3 certification. This role is under the direction of the Area Manager and as the certified operator of the WWTP will be responsible for all activities in support of the operation of the wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, and the wastewater collection systems.

Essential Duties:
* Operates and maintains the recently expanded and modernized Class 3, 1.0 MGD WWTP.
* Monitors operations including using SCADA.
* Ensures wastewater systems comply with regulatory policies, procedures and rules.
* Completes customer service work orders. Updates and maintains appropriate system documentation of activities and closes work orders in the appropriate company system in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
* Monitors capital projects at facilities.
* Addresses complaints and resolves issues within the area of responsibility.
* Responds to maintenance problems with appropriate action and understanding of process/ equipment alternatives, including troubleshooting operational problems and coordinating repairs with outside contractors and internal staff.
* Maintains awareness of operational conditions and/or identifies pending issues/problems, and notifies management recommending an appropriate course of action.
* Performs all tasks safely, professionally, and in accordance with all company policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws, rules, and guidelines.
* Works closely with company employees and customers.
* Attends training events and seminars to keep current with regulatory changes, become familiar with new technology, and keep current with Operator Continuing Education requirements.
* Performs additional duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:
* High School diploma or equivalent.
* Minimum 3 years of operational experience in the wastewater industry.
* A valid U.S driver's license.
* Must reside within ~45 minutes of the WWTP, located in central western Hancock County.
* Must currently possess a valid Indiana certification for Wastewater Class I, or above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely, and professionally) with internal staff and external customers.
* Strong customer service skills as this position interacts with the public.
* Ability to work independently exercising knowledge, skill, and professionalism while making decisions affecting the treatment process.
* Ability to understand computers/tablets and the basic operation of database, spreadsheet and work processing preferred.
* Ability to operate a cell phone and tablet device to perform work activities.
* Ability to read, understand and accurately follow operating instructions both written and verbal.
* Ability to work well under pressure.
* Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment.
* Highly motivated and self-disciplined individual with the ability to work alone, but also mentor younger employees.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
* May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and /or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Completion of a lift assessment is required for employment.
* Working conditions may include travel to other Aqua Indiana work sites.
* This position is required to be part of a rotating on call 24 hour/7-day shift.
