Position Summary

The University
of New Mexico School of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery is recruiting a
board certified or board eligible, Open Rank, Open Track, general
neurosurgeon with a focused experience in treating brain trauma and spine
disorders
; comfort managing basic pediatric conditions is welcome but not
required. Enthusiastic interest in leading and growing such as neurosurgical
practice is needed. Successful candidates will join 12 established
neurosurgeons and neurocritical care doctors practicing and teaching
neurosurgery residents at the University of New Mexico.

The University
of New Mexico is the only tertiary referral neurosurgical center and Level 1
trauma center in the state of 2.3 million people. There is significant need and
opportunity to expand our general neurosurgical practice, especially that of
brain and spinal trauma and degenerative spine disorders. Overall, the
department has a comprehensive practice encompassing the full range of
neurological disorders in both adult and pediatric patients. This practice is
supported by an experienced group of 24 advanced practice providers, has an
expanding ACGME-approved residency, and is predominantly based in a newly
opened and equipped Critical Care Tower.

known for its artistic, musical, and culinary excellence. Albuquerque is home
to excellent restaurants that feature southwestern, farm to table, and
international cuisines. Los Alamos, site of the development of the atomic bomb,
and Sandia National Laboratories continue as leaders in physics research. And
Albuquerque is home to the largest hot air balloon festival in the country, one
of the most photographed events in the world. Albuquerque is at the center of
this "Land of Enchantment".


Qualifications


Minimum
Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or
    equivalent degree
  • Certification
    by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) or its international
    equivalent or completion, by start date, of an Accreditation Council for
    Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited residency in neurological surgery

Preferred
Qualifications

  • Academic
    neurosurgery practice; with a minimum of one year as fellow or attending
    surgeon, working with residents and students
  • Teaching: with
    lectures and presentations listed
  • Scholarly activity;
    with evidence of publication, participation in clinical/ translational
    research, and/or independent funding of research
  • Commitment to
    Community; with a demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the
    rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the University's
    mission to serve local and global communities
