Job Summary

This is a full-time, career position based on the UC Davis Health campus. Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the incumbent will work closely with the project manager, lab personnel, and other study staff supporting work on the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program. The ECHO Program is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health with current funding through 2030. The UC Davis site has three ECHO cohorts. While this position provides primary support to the ECHO prenatal cohort, this position will also serve as back-up support for other ECHO cohorts. The incumbent will assist with data collection and entry, assist with participant visits, conduct recruitment activities, obtain participant medical records for abstraction, prepare study documentation, collect birth data and process and ship biological specimens, including from participant labor and delivery (cord blood and placenta). ECHO enrolls both English and Spanish speaking participants. Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred. In addition to the ECHO Studies, this position on occasion, may need to assist with other laboratory related duties for other research studies within the Department of Public Health Sciences. This position will require following all the ECHO protocols for data collection, specimen processing, and shipping, and participant confidentiality as well as handling and processing of biological specimens in compliance with state and federal regulations, ICH, GCP guidelines, Health System policy and procedures, and university standard operating procedures. To meet operational and participant needs, this position will have 8-hour shifts between 9:00 am - 5:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Occasional weekend work and overtime may be required.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • High School graduation or GED equivalent and/or equivalent experience/training and/or demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • At least one (1) year of experience following research and/or lab protocols.
  • Skills and knowledge to practice safe handling, transport, and processing of biological specimens, such as blood, placenta, urine, saliva, stool, and hair samples or in handling other hazardous materials.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy-sufficient to maintain participant files and databases on a large number of study participants.
  • Must be able to drive to transport samples in either a UC provided vehicle or personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement will be provided).
  • Skills and ability to travel to various work locations to attend department or study meetings or participate in special projects, training, etc.
  • Skills and ability to drive up to 1 hour each way to participant homes and hospitals to complete study appointments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience collecting research data.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish speaking.
  • Ability to make various reagents and effectively use a micropipettor and other laboratory tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues.
  • Strong ability to work independently.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills, both in person and over the telephone.

Work Environment
