Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

NOTE:This position is funded through an external grant. Continued employment beyond the fiscal year is contingent upon continued funding.

Position Summary:
The GEAR UP Advisor will be highly qualified to provide comprehensive services and support to student participants at partner schools. This position reports to the GEAR UP Director and the Manager of Outreach and Advising and works closely with the GEAR UP team and local school partners to ensure grant objectives are achieved and aligned with the strategic plan of ENMU-Roswell.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual academic and career advising to cohort students.
  • Maintain high-quality mentoring relationships with participants and families by monitoring participant progress and determining appropriate interventions.
  • Provide ongoing financial aid and financial literacy information and assistance.
  • Oversee tutoring services, including supervising tutors and monitoring online tutoring activities.
  • Coordinate career and/or college club meetings, as well as college planning and application activities.
  • Oversee online mentoring services and related software platforms.
  • Collaborate with local schools/districts and GEAR UP team members to support program goals.
  • Take initiative and use creativity to implement effective program services.
  • Collect and enter program-related data into the management system.
  • Meet all expectations and complete other duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of experience working with middle school, high school, and/or post-secondary students.
  • Experience working with students from disadvantaged populations.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Background similar to participants.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet grant objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer and marketing software.
  • Ability to advocate for and support local community outreach efforts for the GEAR UP cohort.

Working Conditions

  • Work is typically performed during normal business hours, with occasional evenings and weekends required to meet deadlines and program needs.
  • Work is not sedentary in nature and may require exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
