Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
Global Engagement serves international students and faculty members, and establishes global partnerships for UNCP
Primary Purpose of Position
Advise students on study abroad/away options. Advise on faculty-led study abroad programs. Under the supervision from the AVC, provide advisory, referral, and information services to students, parents, and others interested in study abroad opportunities, as well as work, travel, or volunteer opportunities. Provide, organize, and implement materials and forums regarding overseas study opportunities and sources of financial aid; assist students in complying with registration and academic credit transfer requirements. May supervise support staff positions.

70%:
This position is primarily responsible for recruitment of UNCP study abroad/away students, balancing exchange-in-kind with incoming exchange students, direct exchanges, exchanges in conjunction with consortiums, and faculty-led programs. This position has budget responsibility for faculty-led programs, scholarship awards and financial aid. The Study Abroad Coordinator is responsible for implementation and growth of the university's study abroad and student exchange programs. A background in the development and maintenance of Memorandums of Agreement and Memorandums of Understanding is desired. Here are some key responsabilities:



  • Guide outgoing and incoming students through basic immigration processes.
  • Actively pursue federal and state grants, scholarships, and other financial opportunities to assist with study abroad students and faculty-led programs.
  • Meet with prospective study abroad candidates on a regular basis.
  • Conduct orientations for outgoing UNCP students and faculty-led programs, interface with incoming exchange students, and promote scholarship opportunities for study abroad.
  • Promote UNCP as an exchange partner, and collaborate with UNCP deans, department chairs, and faculty in presenting workshops, recruiting, and marketing.
  • Work closely with stakeholder units on-campus (Campus Safety, Public Relations, Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, and other units) to ensure streamline procedures for study abroad and faculty-led programs, including academic related matters associated with credit-transfer, foreign transcripts, transfer and credit equivalences, financial aid awards, etc.
  • Manage social and traditional media content, student data, and security of student records and marketing and promotion of study abroad opportunities.

The Study Abroad Coordinator serves as a key campus leader to promote global engagement and will have these additional responsibilities:

  • Assist the AVC of Global Engagement and Office of Global Engagement Staff with strategic goals and objectives for international exchange.
  • Plan and create events that promote global engagement throughout the year and serve has the lead for annual international week activities.
  • Collaborate with OGE units to assist with international student services that involve on-campus events, overnights cultural excursions and afterhours programming.
  • Design and promote a Career Abroad Program for both US students and international students.
  • Participate actively in Global Braves Arrival at the beginning of each term.
  • Fulfill other work-related duties as assigned by the AVC of Global Engagement.

This position is expected to work as a team member in promoting the mission of the Office of Global Engagement and in building collaborative efforts among various academic and administrative departments. An amiable, energetic, and creative approach to promoting study abroad opportunities for UNCP students is essential.


Management Preference

  • Experience advising, mentoring, or supporting students through application, participation, and program completion processes while providing responsive customer service and guidance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, as well as the ability to learn and effectively use new software applications.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
