HDR is hiring a North Central Region Environmental Sciences and Planning Leader to provide leadership and direction in the execution of strategy and initiatives for providing environmental services to a diversity of clients across the North Central U.S. With over 110 professionals spread across 13 offices, our North Central Region Environmental Science and Planning Business Class or Practice represents a diverse team of environmental professionals working in multiple market sectors. This position can be based out of any of our offices in the North Central and will require periodic travel across the region.

Position Summary

The Regional Business Class Leader (RBCL) provides strategic, operational, and people leadership for a designated Business Class across one or more HDR regions. This role ensures alignment with Operations, Business Group, and Cross-Sector strategies while driving collaboration, delivery excellence, staff development, and business growth.

Responsible to the Environmental Cross Sector Director and the Regional Operations and Business Group Regional leadership for developing and delivering Environmental services across all HDR Business Communities and Operating Companies in the Region. The Regional Environmental Business Class Leader is the direct interface with the Area Operations Managers, Business Group Leadership, and Market Sector and Cross Sector Directors and the entity responsible for operationalizing the Environmental program into specific activities.

In this role, we will count on you to:

Regional Leadership and Connectivity

  • Provide strategic, operational, and people leadership for the Business Class in alignment with regional and enterprise plans.
  • Build strong relationships with Area Operations, Business Class/Section Leads, Business Group leadership, and peer Regional Business Class Leaders.
  • Participate in regional strategic planning, budgeting, annual alignment
  • Implement key Business Class initiatives while promoting cross-Area and cross sector integration.

Resource Planning, Workshare & Utilization

  • Coordinate staffing, workshare, utilization, and workload balancing across Areas to meet project and market demands.
    Support forecasting, capacity planning, and proactive deployment of resources.
  • Maintain situational awareness of major programs to enable integrated, multi-discipline delivery solutions.

People Leadership & Professional Development

  • Recruit, mentor, onboard, and develop Area Business Class/Section Leads.
  • Support training, credentialing, career pathways, coaching, and performance conversations.
  • Identify and develop future leaders while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, high-performance culture aligned with company values.

Business Development & Marketing Support

  • Partner with Business Groups to strengthen client relationships and support growth strategies.
  • Support capture planning, pursuit strategies, proposals, and marketing materials.
  • Serve as Project Principal, pursuit champion, or senior advisor for high-visibility or strategic pursuits as appropriate.

Project Delivery, Quality & Best-In-Class Practices

  • Provide project delivery excellence while promoting discipline-specific best practices, and quality standards.
  • Support project teams in resolving delivery challenges while championing innovation, continuous improvement, and alignment with HDR quality expectations, culture and values.

Core Operating Expectations

  • Lead regular coordination calls with Area Business Class/Section Leads
  • Organize and lead regional leadership meetings
  • Conduct periodic area visits
  • Support and/or lead annual regional summits or discipline forums
  • Maintain regular communication with Business Class Director and Area Leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry-recognized reputation for professional accomplishment in the North Central U.S.
  • Understanding of environmental services as related to transportation, water, energy and industrial markets across the North Central U.S.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience leading environmental review processes
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects and diverse teams
  • Experience leading teams to deliver environmental services for a diverse range of market sectors across infrastructure types
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years experience in related field
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other business class regional directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Colorado: $160,090 - $251,570, Illinois: $176,099 - $251,570, Minnesota: $168,095 - $240,135
