Director of Rehabilitation Services

SUMMARY

The Director of Rehabilitation Services is responsible for the overall administration, clinical planning, development, and operations of the inpatient rehabilitation unit, acute rehabilitation services, and outpatient rehabilitation services. Ensures staff is providing appropriate care to patients in keeping with established standards for quality and in accordance with generally established principles of care. Supervises the scheduling of patients for therapy services considering available treatment hours, staff resources and overall plan of care. Manages the evaluation, development and marketing of the inpatient rehabilitation unit and all rehabilitation services. Completes required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations. May be required to perform patient care duties as their licensed discipline. Performs all work with accord to the mission, vision, and values of Aiken Regional Medical Centers..

DUTIES:

  1. Demonstrates effective communication skills through collaboration with all healthcare team members, patients, payors, vendors, the community, assuring optimal outcome and stressing service excellence.
  2. Organizes, schedules, and directs team meetings reviewing safety, infection control, financial, performance improvement, and administrative issues. Reviews changes in policies and procedures and standards of care and practice effecting areas of responsibilities.
  3. Reports all relevant information regarding patient care, departmental operation and organizational operation to administration and healthcare team members as necessary.
  4. Promotes mission and vision of hospital.
  5. Exhibits flexibility and creativity in reaching organizational goals.
  6. Monitors and evaluates activities in all areas impacting rehabilitation services to ensure quality patient care and compliance with applicable standards/guidelines.
  7. Reviews, revises, develops and obtains approval for policies and standards with medical staff involvement as appropriate.
  8. Manages financial aspects of the unit(s) providing resources necessary to maintain quality patient care while ensuring operations are within budget parameters.
  9. Responds to a changing healthcare environment by promoting a positive attitude during changes affecting the hospital and collaborating with other healthcare workers in initiating the change process, and managing resistance to change through staff participation, conflict resolution, and resource utilization.
  10. Acts as a resource person and provides technical advice to medical, clinical and other staff.
  11. Maintains and reports on performance improvement activities.
  12. Works with other members of management team to refine/develop staff competencies as they relate to the rehabilitation services product line.
  13. Develops specific targets related to clinical, statistical and financial efficacy.
  14. Develops specific marketing and advertising plans for the rehabilitation services product line.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. or Graduate of an accreditied or NLN approved RN program.

Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of professional experience that demonstrates a progressive leadership background. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities. Ability to lead a diverse and cross-functional team.

License or Registration Requirements: Current license to practice as a Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapist in the state of South Carolina or eligible to obtain is preferred. Current SC or qualifiying compact state nursing license.
