Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Department of Pediatrics is a large diverse clinical department of approximately 110 clinical faculty as well as multiple staff providers with clinical billing. We are a large, complex department providing outstanding clinical care in 16 clinical subspecialties to the Children of New Mexico that is unequaled in the state or region.

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Medical Practice Specialist, Sr. to serve as the Clinical Practice Manager. This position, under general supervision, will independently lead the Pediatrics Clinical Practice Team. This position plans, oversees, and monitors the Department's clinical revenue-generating operations and systems. The position provides leadership and oversight of provider billing workflows, clinical productivity, revenue performance, financial and operational analysis, reporting, forecasting, credentialing, and provider onboarding.

The Clinical Practice Manager identifies opportunities to improve practice productivity, operational efficiency, billing performance, and clinical revenue. The position analyzes complex clinical, financial, operational, and productivity data; identifies workflow gaps and breakdowns; and works collaboratively with providers, clinical leadership, and institutional partners to develop and implement solutions. In coordination with Division Chiefs and Executive Management, this position will participate in strategic planning of new clinical practice opportunities and provide detailed clinical analysis regarding clinical revenue action plans. In addition, will develop and maintain standard operating procedures and protocol that improves our charge capture processes.

This position directly supervises staff supporting missing documentation reviews, billing sheet processes, clinical reporting, forecasting, credentialing, and provider onboarding.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 9 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an academic medical center, large healthcare system, multi-specialty practice, or other complex clinical environment, including the use of electronic medical record and practice management systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Sorian).
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or similar tools to analyze, reconcile, validate, and present clinical, financial, operational, or provider productivity data, including RVUs, collections, revenue trends, and performance metrics to support decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving billing, documentation, workflow, or revenue cycle issues and implementing solutions that improved revenue capture, operational efficiency, compliance, or provider productivity.
  • Demonstrated experience developing forecasts, business cases, operational recommendations, or revenue-generating strategies that informed strategic planning and supported financial sustainability within a clinical enterprise.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with physicians, clinical leaders, billing and coding teams, credentialing staff, financial teams, and other stakeholders to implement initiatives, improve operations, and achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated experience with provider credentialing and/or onboarding processes for physicians or other clinical providers.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering presentations, reports, or training to clinical, operational, and leadership audiences, including experience supervising, mentoring, or developing staff in healthcare, financial, billing, operational, or administrative functions
