Power Substation Foreman - Texas

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, organize, and direct the daily work of substation and electrical craft team members based on the project schedule, client requirements, and state and federal regulations.

• Establish and adjust work sequences to meet the construction schedule using knowledge of crew capabilities and equipment capacities.

• Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance.

• Perform and oversee routine inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of transformers, circuit breakers, relays, capacitor banks, regulators, and associated substation equipment.

• Install, terminate, and troubleshoot power, control, and communication cables.

• Construct and install grounding systems, steel structures, conduit, and other substation infrastructure.

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, work orders, and construction drawings to determine work requirements and sequence of installation or repair.

• Execute approved switching procedures and assist with energization, commissioning, and startup activities.

• Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to identify and correct equipment failures, including high-voltage systems.

• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.

• Organize work by receiving and studying work orders; gather tools, materials, and supplies and place orders as needed.

• Maintain accurate maintenance, testing, inspection, and time records.

• Interpret and enforce company policies, safety regulations, and quality standards with the crew.

• Follow all OSHA, company, client, and project safety requirements while utilizing required PPE; maintain a safework environment and comply with all applicable codes.

• Respond to emergency outages and support restoration efforts as needed.

• Analyze and resolve work problems and make decisions based on measurable information.

• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.

• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.

• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Technical, vocational, or Associate's degree in Electrical Technology or related field preferred; trade or technical school certification/diploma preferred.

• Minimum five years of electrical, utility, substation, or power delivery related experience; apprenticeship completion preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and manage a craft crew.

• Valid state electrical license where required by the project or jurisdiction.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and construction drawings.

• Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, substations, HV/MV/LV AC/DC systems, and safe work practices.

• Current driver's license required; Class A CDL preferred or ability to obtain.

• Ability to operate equipment such as fall protection equipment, rigging, hand tools, and power tools.

• Ability to speak and understand English (Spanish is a plus).

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work at heights, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions.

• Repetitive hand, arm, and leg movements; frequent crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and reaching.

• Demonstrated emotional intelligence, strong teamwork orientation, positive attitude, professional customer service skills, and detail orientation.

• Active listening skills and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback.

• Strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and customer service.

• Ability and willingness to travel and work on project assignments as needed.

Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling over 50 lbs will be done with assistance of another team member or equipment.
