Salary range:
Academic Coordinator: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by step at appointment. See the following tables for the current salary scales for this position T36 I and T36 N I . The current full-time base salary range for this position is $66,798-$127,163 or a full-time hourly base salary range of $32.00-$60.91, if non-exempt. "Off-scale" salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Percent time:
Academic Coordinator: At least 8%, up to 25%, dependent on needs and funding.

Position duration:
Academic Coordinator: Two years with the possibility of reappointment.

Lecturer: Initial one-year appointment. Reappointments are dependent on departmental needs.

The Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) in the College of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator I to serve for the Master of Bioprocess Engineering (MBPE) program. This intensive 9-month program of bioprocess fundamentals & hands-on applications is designed to prepare graduates for meaningful careers as Bioprocess Engineers & Scientists in the biotechnology industry.

Key academic, administrative, and programmatic responsibilities of the position, coordinated and performed independently with the expectation of reporting directly to the department chair, include:

• 
  Program Administration & Cohort Management: Support the day-to-day administrative operations, student recruitment, onboarding, and program workflow for a cohort of approx. 25-35 MBPE students.

  Student Advising & Mentorship: Serve as an academic and career advisor/mentor to MBPE students, including providing ongoing technical advice and review for multi-semester term projects.
  
  
• 
  Career Placement & Coaching: Lead career coaching and placement efforts to support student placement in industry internships and full-time positions.
  
  
• 
  Academic & Industry Engagement: Organize and manage programmatic industry events, including hosting annual career fairs, student poster sessions, guest lectures, industry workshops, and company site visits.
  
  
• 
  Strategic Partnerships: Identify opportunities for academic, government, industry, and non-profit collaborations, partnerships, and consortia to expand the MBPE and CBE networks.
  
  
• 
  Curriculum & Advisory Support: Support the Executive Director in reviewing, developing, and improving academic content in coordination with the program's Industrial Advisory Board (IAB).
  
  
• 
  Program Governance: Participate in ongoing program planning, reviews, and reporting with internal and external governing bodies.

In addition, the Academic Coordinator may contribute to the program's standard curriculum with an opportunity to teach one lecture course during each spring and fall semester during the academic year to graduate students. For these courses, CBE will seek a pre-six Lecturer appointment that would run concurrently with the Academic Coordinator title, which will be reduced to accommodate the Lecturer position.

General duties for a Lecturer (in addition to teaching responsibilities) include:

• Holding office hours
• Assigning grades
• Advising students
• Preparing course materials

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Bachelor's degree, or equivalent international degree, at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Advanced degree (or equivalent international degree) at the time of start and two years of experience in a laboratory course setting and/or research/professional experience.

Preferred qualifications

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Demonstrated record of professional experience and service in the biopharmaceutical, industrial biotech and/or food tech industries.

Expertise in the design, development, scale up & commercialization of bio-based processes & products in the biopharmaceutical, industrial biotech and/or food tech industries.

Experience with academic, industry, government & non-profit consortia, both participatory and leadership.

Strong ability for student advising.

Potential for successfully attracting & mentoring new students.

Potential for designing new courses.

Experience or strong potential in university-level teaching and classroom instruction.

Prior teaching experience.
