Monitor Technician - RWJBarnabas Health

The Telemetry Technician is responsible for continuously monitoring patients cardiac rhythms and other vital telemetry data, recognizing changes or abnormalities, and promptly communicating significant findings to the nursing and clinical care team.

The Telemetry Technician supports safe, timely, and effective patient care by maintaining accurate monitoring and documentation. This is a PT nights role.

A typical day for a Monitor Technician may include:

• Continuously monitor assigned patients on cardiac telemetry and pulse oximetry systems,
• Recognize and identify abnormal cardiac rhythms, rate changes, dysrhythmias, and other significant changes in monitored data,
• Immediately notify the appropriate nurse of significant or potentially life-threatening rhythm changes according to hospital policy,
• Maintain accurate documentation of rhythm changes, alarms, interventions, and notifications,
• Obtain and print rhythm strips as required and ensure appropriate documentation,
• Perform routine rhythm interpretation and accurately identify common cardiac rhythms,
• Verify proper electrode placement and troubleshoot telemetry equipment when needed,
• Replace or reposition electrodes and batteries as appropriate,
• Respond promptly to telemetry alarms and investigate changes in patient rhythm or monitoring status.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with nurses, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Report malfunctioning equipment or monitoring concerns promptly.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies,

• High school diploma or equivalent required,
• Previous hospital or healthcare experience preferred,
• Previous telemetry or cardiac monitoring experience preferred,
• Completion of an approved cardiac monitoring/telemetry course preferred,
• Ability to recognize and accurately interpret common cardiac rhythms
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
