Engineer I, Industrial

Provide analytical support and coordination for plant operations. Contribute to the improvement of operational efficiency, yield improvement, and cost analysis. Responsible for planning activities and capacity analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Tasks include and may not be limited to the following:

  • Process Mapping and Production Support: Gemba, SOPs, process improvement, observational data and collection, process mapping, current/future State mapping, VSM, removing waste and visual improvement through engagement with technicians, supervisors and support teams
  • KPI Analysis: Analyze and improve manufacturing performance including efficiency, run time, reducing unplanned downtime, throughput, manufacturing yield, reducing manufacturing costs, plan to actual and more by utilizing large databases supporting and gemba data supporting our manufacturing KPIs
  • 5S/Kanban/Andon: Develop future state workflows and systems through 5S and/or other LSS tactics and improve labor utilization and process efficiency
  • Continuous Improvement/Lean MFG: Plan and perform time studies, cycle time analysis, defect analysis, yield analysis and other engineering assessments
  • Engineering Support: Work closely with the Production Control and senior engineers to carry out process improvements and lean fundamentals based on analytic findings. Work closely with engineering departments to determine factory layout, equipment placement, material flow and expansions
  • Capacity Analysis/ToC: Assist Senior engineer in removing bottlenecks by identifying root cause through ToC, assist in capacity planning and establishing forecasts and budgets by determining equipment, manpower and other requirements
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build effective working relationships with multiple intra departments and stakeholders to ensure project success and overall position success and educate less knowledgeable stakeholders in LSS methodology where necessary
  • Control and Reporting: Support or develop creation of dashboards, manufacturing yield databases, metrics, data tracking systems and collection that can or will improve accuracy, accessibility and effectiveness of manufacturing information used for cross departmental and business decisions
  • Capacity Planning: Support Senior Engineer with production forecasting, ToC, budgeting, capacity models and analysis, production scheduling, manpower planning, equipment planning, customer requirements and future customer demand planning.
  
  
  
  

Skills and Specifications

• Ability to utilize/operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software, including a high level of Microsoft Excel programming knowledge and experience.
• Working knowledge of statistical quality control.
• Familiarity with Total Quality Management.
• Ability to set priorities.
• Ability to foster teamwork.
• Must be able to get along well with diverse personalities and cultures.
• Ability to develop close working relationships with other departments
• 0-3 years of applicable industrial, manufacturing, operations or engineering experience. Relevant internship or cooperative education experience
• Experience and expertise in large manufacturing environments or with complex composite systems and manufacturing, aerospace manufacturing, chemical processing or other similar environments
• Knowledge of AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 or other regulated requirements in Aerospace MFG or similar
• LSS Green Belt, Black Belt or Master Black Belt or Experience supporting Kaizen events, DMAIC process/projects 5-whys, Fishbones and other similar strategies
• Experience with any MES/ERP/MRP System, Production Simulation Software
• Experience with large databases and being able to query databases to maintain or develop dashboards, KPIs and other tools
• Other related experience not necessarily listed in relation to LSS, Engineering principles and/or manufacturing and Software
• Self-Starter and/or Self-promoter who is able to work w/ out leadership or guidance and committed to high-quality standards while supporting resource management

Education and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related field; an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Power BI), Statistical Software (JMP, Minitab etc.)
• Working knowledge of LSS and engineering principles such as VSM, 5S, Kanban/Visual Management Tools, Capacity Modeling, Toc, SOPs, Flow Analysis, Takt Time, OEE, OTD, Productivity, RCA, DOE, DMAIC and more
• Excellent analytical, communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to swap between solo work/data collection or team/cross departmental projects
• Ability to work around large machinery and in manufacturing environments safely

Vision abilities require the adjustment and focus of sight. Ability to be physically mobile and to occasionally walk within the facility. Climbing of stairs is rarely required. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
