Patient Escort III - Full Time - 11:00am - 7:30pm Shift - Rotating Weekends and Holidays - Christiana Hospital - Newark Campus

We are seeking a customer-focused and experienced Patient Transport Trainer to support safe, efficient patient transportation throughout the hospital while helping develop and mentor new team members. This role combines hands-on patient transport responsibilities with training, coaching, and employee development duties to ensure exceptional patient care and service excellence.

The Patient Transport Trainer transports patients safely throughout the hospital and serves as a subject matter expert for departmental policies, procedures, and training programs. This position assists with onboarding and evaluating new employees, conducting training sessions, supporting departmental initiatives, and promoting safe patient handling practices while delivering outstanding customer service.

• Transport patients safely via stretcher, wheelchair, bed, and specialized transport vehicles to and from patient care and clinical service areas.
• Assist clinical personnel with patient transfers to and from transport equipment.
• Pick up and deliver clinical equipment, medications, specimens, and paperwork as assigned.
• Respond professionally and courteously to patients, families, nursing staff, and clinical personnel.
• Support dispatch operations when needed.
• Assist with the care, cleaning, and maintenance of departmental equipment.

• Train new employees on: Safe patient transport procedures Proper operation and disinfection of transport equipment Patient transfer techniques Customer service standards Communication and handoff procedures
• Train staff on specialty functions, including: Oxygen rounding Clinical and specimen rounding Physical Therapy Gym transports Procedures and Labor & Delivery transports
• Evaluate new hires using departmental training checklists and provide constructive feedback.
• Communicate performance, safety, or customer service concerns to supervisors and training specialists.
• Assist leadership in developing training materials and educational resources.
• Lead or support departmental training sessions, workshops, skills stations, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a departmental resource and subject matter expert on policies, procedures, and best practices.

• Follow all departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions, hazards, or safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
• Participate in required educational programs, in-service training, and departmental meetings.
• Perform CPR and emergency response duties as required.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of customer service experience required.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.

• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to teach, coach, and evaluate staff performance.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn hospital departmental locations and workflows.
• Basic computer skills, including email, web-based learning platforms, and timekeeping applications.
• Ability to learn and operate departmental vehicles, including golf carts and Segways.
• Understanding of safe patient handling and body mechanics.
• Ability to use smartphones and mobile devices for job assignments.
• Strong customer service skills with a professional, compassionate approach.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Frequent pushing and pulling of transport equipment, often involving considerable weight.
• Frequent repetitive use of hands, wrists, fingers, and arms.
• Occasional bending, crouching, lifting, and lowering of patients and equipment.
• Must successfully pass a back evaluation examination.

• Frequent handwashing required.
• Intermittent exposure to cleaning agents.
• Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases.
• Fast-paced hospital environment requiring attention to safety, service, and patient care.
