Senior Maritime Training Specialist Deck

We are seeking a Senior Deck Professional to evaluate maritime training curricula and supporting documentation. Apply your sailing experience to assess whether courses prepare mariners for the responsibilities of their credentials.

Location: Position is remote within the United States.

*** This position is contingent upon award of a contract to Harkcon***

Key Responsibilities

  • Review course content, learning objectives, assessments, instructor qualifications, and training-site documentation.
  • Assess alignment with applicable maritime regulations, policy, and accepted industry practice.
  • Prepare clear findings, recommended corrections, and draft technical responses for Government review.
  • Resolve reviewer comments, maintain evaluation records, and meet established quality and workload expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • Hold or have held a U.S. Coast Guard-issued Merchant Mariner Credential endorsed as Master of Unlimited Tonnage upon Oceans or Chief Mate of Unlimited Tonnage upon Oceans.
  • At least five years of experience sailing on the qualifying credential.
  • Ability to evaluate deck training materials and explain technical findings clearly in writing.
  • Availability for an initial two-week onsite orientation in West Virginia and additional onsite training as required.
  • Ability to coordinate during Eastern Time business hours and work effectively from a remote location.
  • Ability to meet applicable customer screening, facility access, information protection, and system access requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing, developing, teaching, or evaluating maritime training courses.
  • Experience with curriculum assessment, training quality assurance, or regulatory compliance.
  • A current Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) certificate is not required. Candidates who previously held the qualifying credential are welcome.
