The Roads and Highways Practice is seeking a California Transportation Group Leader / Senior Project Manager, based in one of our offices in Ontario, Tustin, or San Diego, CA, to support the growth and success of our Transportation Business Unit throughout California.

This role combines people leadership, project delivery, client management, and business development to grow DEA's transportation presence throughout California while delivering high-quality solutions for public agency clients.

What You'll Do Key Responsibilities: Group Leader Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop transportation staff across California.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
  • Manage employee performance, career development, training, and staffing assignments.
  • Partner with Transportation leadership to recruit and retain top talent.
  • Collaborate with Group Leaders and practice leaders across DEA to support project delivery and business development efforts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry partners, and teaming firms.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives and pursue new project opportunities throughout California.
Senior Project Manager Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Project Manager for complex transportation engineering and planning projects.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the delivery of roadway, highway, multimodal, active transportation, and corridor improvement projects.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Oversee project financial performance, including forecasting, invoicing, subconsultant management, and contract administration.
  • Ensure deliverables meet client requirements and DEA quality standards.
  • Coordinate staffing resources and project workloads to meet delivery commitments.
  • Participate in business development activities, including client meetings, pursuit strategies, proposal development, and interviews.
  • Support long-term client relationships with Caltrans, regional transportation agencies, counties, and municipalities.
What You Bring Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California, or ability to obtain within six months.
  • 15+ years of transportation engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of project management experience delivering transportation projects for Caltrans and/or local agencies.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex transportation projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience developing client relationships and supporting business development efforts.
  • Working knowledge of OpenRoads, MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and related transportation design software.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Existing relationships with Caltrans, cities, counties, or regional transportation agencies in California.
  • Established record of winning and delivering transportation projects.
  • Experience leading teams across multiple office locations.

* The posted salary range represents the typical range for this position and is provided in accordance with applicable state and local pay transparency laws. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
