Assistant Professor, Center for Pathogen Immunology

NYU Langone Health System
United States, New York, New York
Oct 06, 2026

The Department of Microbiology at NYU Langone Health, together with the newly established Center for Pathogen Immunology, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The Center is a major new initiative designed to expand and strengthen the immunology community across NYU Langone Health by bringing together basic scientists, physician-scientists, and clinicians working in infection biology and immunology and by fostering multidisciplinary research that connects fundamental discovery with therapeutic translation.

We seek creative and collaborative investigators studying immune responses to pathogens, with particular interest in mechanisms that can be leveraged to develop host-directed therapies. Areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to:

* Tissue immunity and disease tolerance

* Myeloid cell biology

* Neuroimmunology

* Host responses to infection

We welcome applicants using innovative experimental, computational, or human-based approaches to define mechanisms of protective immunity, immune-mediated pathology, tissue repair, and host resilience during infection. The successful candidate will help shape the scientific direction of the new Center and will join a growing, highly interactive immunology community spanning Microbiology, Pathology, Cancer Biology, Xenotransplant Immunology, and Infectious Disease programs across NYU Langone Health. The Center will promote cross-disciplinary collaboration through shared scientific programs, advanced research technologies, seed funding, an annual research retreat, and a Pathogen Immunology Symposium, while strengthening pathways that move basic discoveries toward therapeutic development.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree and have an outstanding record of scientific achievement and the potential to establish a vigorous, independent, extramurally funded research program. The Department of Microbiology includes faculty with expertise in bacteriology, immunology, parasitology, and virology, providing a rich environment for collaborative and interdisciplinary research.

New faculty members will be supported with generous start-up packages, state-of-the-art laboratory space (including germ-free and ABSL3 facilities and an insectary), and access to a wide range of school-subsidized core facilities providing services in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, cell imaging, flow cytometry, pathology, and other advanced technologies. Successful candidates are expected to participate in the Ph.D. program of the Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences.

For consideration, please submit the following materials as separate PDFs: 1) Cover letter; 2) Curriculum Vitae; 3) Research Statement - brief description of research accomplishments; 4) Research Plan - brief description of future research objectives; 5) Two key recent publications; and 6) Name and contact information for three references. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
