We are actively seeking a Structural Engineer with 6 to 10 years of experience with bridge, transportation, and/or rail structure projects. As the successful new hire, you will possess strong design and communication skills and have the desire to interact with clients if not immediate but in the future. You may be seated in either our: Baton Rouge (preferred), or New Orleans offices. Our bridge team provides a growing suite of bridge services to LADOTD, MDOT, OSARC and other agencies in the area including complex bridge inspections and load ratings, with supporting offices providing concrete bridge design, steel bridge design, bridge widening and replacement, grade separations, seismic retrofit, pump stations, underground structures, and retaining walls. Firm-wide, our bridge practice provides design and inspection services both domestically and internationally. We have worked on some of the most iconic bridges in the USA!

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide experience in project conceptualization, bridge design (preliminary and final), plan development, project implementation, and project controls
  • Responsible for technical aspects of the design and deliverable including QA/QC
  • Mentor junior professionals to perform load ratings and design bridges and structures
  • Understand and maintain proficiency with LADOTD, MDOT, OSARC, and ARDOT design standards and criteria, practices, and policies
  • Write and coordinate bridge technical reports, plans, cost estimates, specifications, and proposals
  • Collaborate with Bridge and Rail Team and all company disciplines
  • Conduct inspections and assist in supervision of site investigations as needed
  • Function independently performing technical design tasks

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Master's degree in Structural Engineering strongly preferred
  • Professional Engineer in the State of Louisiana or eligible to obtain within 6 months; Structural Engineer licensure is a plus
  • 6 to 10 years of experience in bridge structural, planning, design (new and rehabilitative), and preparation of construction drawings and contract documents for highway and/or railroad bridge projects
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with AASHTO Specifications, LADOTD BDEM, Agency Guidelines, and local municipal design standards and criteria, practices, and policies
  • Bridge, rail, and site inspection experience desirable
  • NHI certifications desired. Willingness to obtain post hire is required
  • Knowledge of Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) design standards and criteria, practices, and policies strongly desired
  • Proficiency in SAP2000, CSI Bridge, CTBridge, Xtract, AASHTOWare D/R/M, VBridge, Leap, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation preferred
  • Additional design experience with other states and with load rating of bridges is desirable
  • Experience with Alternate Delivery Methods is desirable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

The work takes place in both the office and the field which may require occasional extended hours or weekends to meet deadlines. Inclement weather may occur.

Physical requirements:

Must be able to navigate field to inspect bridges. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Perform office work or attend meetings. Light local travel as necessary.
