Position Summary
This position is responsible for all phases of designing mid to high voltage electrical transmission, switching, and distribution substations (and stations) for the electric utility industry, permitting, and overseeing the construction of capital substation projects, and for establishing and maintaining substation material and construction standards.

Position Responsibilities



  • Substation Design: Perform duties associated with all phases of substation design work, including (but not limited to): station sighting, site preparation, physical and electrical facilities, electrical design, structural design, foundation design, and permitting, for station voltages through 138kV.
  • Project Management: Perform team project management duties and participate on project teams where the teams are responsible for project scheduling, cost management, and coordination of all aspects of the project.
  • Contract Administration: Prepare and administrate construction contracts.
  • Standards and Specifications: Prepare and maintain substation material, design and construction specifications and standards, incorporating special expertise to address unique local environmental problems.
  • Permitting: Ensure permitting requirements are met for projects.
  • Outages: Investigate substation outages.
  • Compliance: Demonstrate compliance with applicable NERC standards as they apply to Operations. Interface with E&O workgroups to support their compliance efforts, as needed. Assist with training as required by the NERC standards.
  • Troubleshoot: Investigate system reliability, maintenance and operational issues and recommend corrective action. Analyze planned substation outages and report out on impacts to substation reliability & availability. Evaluate and resolve real-time operational T&D System issues.
  • Communications: Maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels within LCEC. Ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts. Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to other LCEC employees and contractors to insure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of LCEC's electric system.


Education



  • Bachelor's Degree BS / Electrical Engineering (Required)
  • Master's Degree Electrical (Preferred)


Experience Level I



  • 2+ to 5 Years experience engineering experience (Required)
  • 2+ to 5 Years experience in power engineering role (Required)
  • 1+ to 2 Years experience in substation design engineering role (Required)


Experience Level II



  • 7+ to 10 Years engineering experience (Required)
  • 5+ to 7 Years experience in power engineering role (Required)
  • 2+ to 5 Years experience in substation design engineering role (Required)


Experience Level SR



  • More than 15 Years engineering experience (Required)
  • 10+ to 15 Years experience in power engineering role (Required)
  • 7+ to 10 Years experience in substation design engineering role (Required)
  • Recognition in the profession as a specialist in field (i.e., teaching, writing, etc.) (Preferred)


Licenses and Certifications



  • Valid and in State Florida driver's license or ability to obtain one upon employment Upon Hire (Required)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer-NSPE (Preferred)
