About the Job:

Performs and validates routine and/or specialized laboratory tests in support of scientific research.
Provide support to laboratory members and collaborators regarding study design, fixation methods, orientation and embedding methods, and special stains appropriate to the goals. Advise and assist with immunohistochemistry to include primary and secondary antibody choices, positive and negative controls, multi-antibody complexes and compatibility. Maintain an inventory log of all antibodies, all sections, and all tissue blocks. Schedule and assist with imaging of special stains and immunohistochemically stained sections. Assist in the generation of publication quality images. -
- Analyze the results of experiments, determine antibody specificity, and prepare for the studies/publications
- Process, embed, and section specimens according to standard protocols for paraffin and frozen methods
- Perform histologic staining of specimens according to standard protocols
- Provide histology expertise to investigators including recommendations for specimen collection, fixation, staining, and other routine histology methods
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of histology equipment.
- Maintain microscopes in working order including routine cleaning
- Operate and maintain advanced laboratory equipment including automated digital microscopes and software, robotic processing and staining machinery, paraffin and cryostat microtomes, and standard laboratory balances, pH meters, incubators, centrifuges, refrigerators and freezers.
- Provide reliable, scheduled presence in laboratory during working hours
- Organize and maintain laboratory records including standard protocols, instruction manuals, reagent and equipment quality control data, and investigator account information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a major in biological science or related field plus one year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant research experience to total 5 years
- Experience with operating systems, web browsers, and Microsoft Office Applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with performing histologic staining of specimens according to standard protocols; provide histology expertise to investigators including recommendations for specimen collection, fixation.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to work in a highly dynamic laboratory environment and to apply critical thinking and effective communication to fulfill responsibilities of position.
- Ability to interpret, follow, and develop written experimental protocols and document work.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
