Position Title: Professor & Chair of Computer Science

Employment Type: Full Time, Faculty, Exempt

Reports To:TheProfessor & Chair of Computer Sciencewill report to the Dean of the College of Business, Economics, and Computing

Full Professor/Chair position in computer science to provide visionary leadership for the Computer Science Department, and foster research, teaching, and service excellence considering multiple internal stakeholders including faculty, staff, students as well as external stakeholders in the community, region, and profession such as area employers. Teach multiple classes, mainly Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Data Mining, and Machine Learning, and possibly general computer science. Tenure track faculty may teach day, evening, undergraduate, graduate, and online classes. Associate Professors may be considered with at least 6-8 years of experience at the Associate Professor level that involves faculty leadership responsibilities, and expertise in the courses listed above.

Computer Science historically is a signature program at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. We also offer certificates in Cyber Security, Data Science, Mobile Development, UNIX System Administration, and World Wide Web Publishing, as well as Master's degrees in Computer and Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and IT Management.

Key Job Responsibilities:



  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative academic computer science programs.
  • Provide visionary leadership for the Computer Science Department in expanding the department to meet growing student and employer demands.
  • Lead the department and assist the dean in planning and establishing the large grant-funded AI Center including hiring new AI professors, expanding/modifying the curriculum, and fostering student as well as community and business engagement with the AI Center.
  • Enhance the department's reputation through high-impact research in peer-reviewed journals, publications, and obtaining external funding/grants.
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative academic computer science programs.
  • Teach core undergraduate and graduate computer science courses, emphasizing data science, machine learning, and AI.
  • Collaborate with industry partners and other academic institutions to promote research collaborations and experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Contribute to the university's academic community through service on committees and other leadership roles.
  • Teach undergraduate computer science courses and graduate computer and information system courses as assigned by the department; maximum 9 credits (contact hours) per semester
  • Participate in teaching AI-based courses, mainly Data Science certificate courses and general programming courses
  • Prepare classes, syllabi, and coursework; develop new classes; provide instruction during class time; help students outside of class; provide feedback to students; provide student grades
  • Student mentoring; serving on department committees; assisting with department events; potentially contributing to community projects

Required Qualifications:



  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field with 3-5 years of experience as a Full Professor is preferred. Associate Professor may be considered with at least 6-8 years of experience at the Associate Professor level; a publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and previous faculty leadership responsibilities.
  • Must meet the required qualifications and provide evidence of an active research/publication record commensurate with departmental requirements for this rank
  • Active scholarship with research publications related to computer science within the last five years
