Dentist - Metropolitan Detention Center - PRN/On-call

UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring a Dentist for the Metropolitan Detention Center. This opportunity is a PRN/on-call position involving some Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays, or whenever the facility identifies a need for specific coverage, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center PRN Dentist (on-call) is a clinical position that provides dental health services to the patient population at BCMDC when needed. Reports to the BCMDC Clinic Dental Director to provide dental care that follows the BCMDC policies and procedures.

Summary:

The University of New Mexico, Department of Dental Medicine, is seeking a PRN Staff Dentist to serve as an MDC Site Dental Provider. Providers at the MDC will serve the patient population at MDC in accordance with national standards and the McClendon Agreement.

Minimum Job Requirements of a Dentist:



  1. Doctorate degree in Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine
  2. Fully licensed to practice dentistry in the state of New Mexico
  3. Current DEA registration.



Duties and Responsibilities of a Dentist:




  • Provide hands-on direct patient care as scheduled, per the facility's Oral Care Policy, MDC's scope of dental services, as well as the ACA and NCCHC clinical guidelines and procedures for jails and detention centers.



  • The PRN dentist will follow the work schedule determined and communicated by the dental director of The BCMDC clinic.



  • The PRN dentist will inform the BCMDC dental director of their availability in advance to facilitate scheduling and determining the appropriate shifts that will fit the BCMDC dental clinic's needs and the availability of the PRN dentist.



  • Performs and interprets radiographic examinations as indicated.



  • Treating patients' dental emergencies and urgent dental needs, such as surgical extractions, I&D, placing temporary restorations, and performing limited oral examinations, problem-focused examinations, and annual dental examinations following BCMDC Oral Care Policy, MDC's scope of dental services, as well as the ACA and NCCHC clinical guidelines and procedures for jails and detention centers.



  • Make off-site referrals for procedures that cannot be performed at the facility or for patients needing specialty referrals due to medical conditions by following the facility policies and MDC clinical guidelines and logging requests for off-site appointments and diagnostic studies.



  • Using the assigned facility Medical Record System, record patient-dentist communication and treatment in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the dental visit, the patient's condition, and the care or treatment provided.



  • Comply with proper and accurate documentation practice using the SOAPE format approved by BCMDC clinical guidelines.



  • The PRN dentist providing dental services will abide by all correctional facility security regulations and follow the security-assigned clinics' schedule.



  • Providing patients with dental education and oral hygiene instructions.



  • Providing patients with information regarding available community-based dental facilities to help them follow up and continue their dental care when they return to the community.



  • Comply with performance improvement plans if informed by the BCMDC Dental Director and the Site Health Service Administrator, and report improvements promptly.
