About the Job

Summary of Position: Postdoctoral Fellow to join large and dynamic lab. Our goal is to understand the fundamental molecular motions and interactions that are responsible for cellular movement, to determine the molecular bases of muscle disorders, and to devise novel therapies based on these discoveries. We approach this multidisciplinary problem with a wide range of techniques -- physiology, enzyme kinetics, molecular genetics, peptide synthesis, computer simulation -- but our forte is site-directed spectroscopic probes.

Essential and Other Functions:
60% Develop and apply biophysical methods for structural and functional analysis of muscle proteins, to test molecular models for muscle function and malfunction.

40% Write papers based on your work for publication in scientific journals, and present your work at national and international scientific meetings. Work with mentor on career development plan.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, physics, or chemistry. Experience in EPR, fluorescence, phosphorescence, muscle, or membrane proteins.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in myosin biochemistry.

About the Department

BMBB:
The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphases on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. We are housed in new buildings with state-of-the-art research and support facilities.
